「メキシコのまとめ」を更新しましたのでご覧ください。

今日は朝から市内観光。一応世界遺産に登録されている（らしい）時計台（El Arco)を見に行きます。
ここからアグア火山（富士山のような円錐形の山）が綺麗に見えれば絶景な筈です。


まぁ、時計台自体は大したことないです。天気は晴れで火山も見えるのですが、うーん、イマイチ。光の加減で写真も綺麗に撮れません。これはワシの技術の問題ですね。

メルセー教会にも行って見ましたけど、うーん、大したことないです。

宿に戻ってきて「メキシコのまとめ」を更新。いろいろ計算したり作業が多いです、意外に。生活費が1日あたり23米ドルなのでまぁまぁってところでしょうかね。やはりペンション・アミーゴが安いので助かります。

昼飯はウメザワさんと慶くんとメルカドの食堂に食べに行きました。ワシは豚皮（チチャロン）の煮込み。なかなか濃い味がしますが美味いです。ペプシを付けて20Q。他よりも安いですけど、30メキシコ・ペソなのでそれほど安いわけではないですね。

実際まだ、グアテマラに来てこれぞグアテマラというのにはお目にかかってません。メシもメキシコと大差ないですかね。フライドチキンが多いですが。肥満が少ないこととインディヘナ系の女性がメキシコよりも綺麗な人が多いです。それくらいですかね、今のところ目に付くのは。

午後は慶くんと歓談。GSを濡れタオルで拭いて、パニアに荷物をつめます。メルカドでグアテマラ国旗のステッカーを買ったのでパニアに貼り付けます。オーストラリア国旗のワッペンも有ったのでテープでサイドデフューザーに貼り付けました。この旅にオーストラリアらしい物を1つも持って来なかったので後悔してたんですよね。ちょっと見てくれは悪いですけど、オーストラリアの国旗を貼り付けて満足、満足。

午後は「メキシコのまとめ」の編集。ようやく完成しました。チャリダーであり我が友であり革命戦士の山下君が今ニカラグアまで進んでいるので宿の情報などをメールでやりとりしてもらいました。ありがとう山下君！

ウメザワさんとルートの最終確認を済ませ、夕飯はパスタにフリーにあった2年以上前に賞味期限が切れたワカメふりかけをまぶして終了。ケツァルの残りが少ないのでなるべく贅沢は避けます。

明日はエスキントラ（Esquintla)方面に向かい2号線を国境に向かいエル・サルバドルへ入国。GSのアクセルが重いので出来れば首都サン・サルバドルのディーラーに見てもらう予定です。


Day 193: 2 Feb 2011

Antigua Guatemala

I went to see El Arco (the clock tower) from morning. It supposed to be registered as a World Heritage site. From where the clock tower located, if it is a fine weather, we can see Volucano of Agua clearly.

The tower itself is no any special. I could see the volcano clearly from there, but it wasn'T that great....
I went to Merced Church, but it was no special either. 

Back to Pension Tashiro, I was updating my blog and went for lunch with Akira and Kei. 
We went to the market and found the "Food Court". I had a bowl of "Caldo de Chicharon" the pork skin stew. The taste was pretty good and cost 20Qs including a bottle of Pepsi. Well, it is cheaper than other place but 20Qs equal to MX$30, so it is not really cheap at all. 

Back to Pension again, I had a chat with Kei for a while. Then wiped my GS with a wet cloth, then put Guatemalan sticker, I bought at the market on the right pannier. I also bought a patch of Australian Flag and I sticked it on the right wind defuser. It does not look neat but I am happy to see something Australian on my GS. In fact、I regreted not to have anytihng Australian on my GS until now. 

Akikazu, the bicycle traveller, is now in Nicaragua and e-mailed me lots of information on Central America. Thanks for the info, my friend.

The final confirmation with Akira which route we are takin to El Salvador. Cooked pasta for dinner and now I am ready togo to El Salvador tommorrow.

Day 192: 2011年2月1日

Antigua Guatemala

とうとう2月に入ってしまいました。明日ここを発つ予定で行動します。

朝早く起きて、朝飯前にネット。朝飯は七面鳥のハムサンド。

午前中はネットを駆使してどの国境を越えるかチェック。アンティグアからエスキントラに抜けて南の道2号線からエルサルバドルへ抜ける道を選択。

昼はメルカドの食堂を探したのですが、何故だか見つからず結局フライドチキン。大き目のピースが2個とポテトで12Q。宿に戻り風呂に入って洗濯しようとしたら、断水。雨水を貯めてあるほうの蛇口からは水が出るのですが、シャワーが出ません。

やること無いのでお喋り。慶くんに中米の地球の歩き方を借りて主要都市の地図と宿情報をコピー。大使館情報も写してこれで万全です。夜は早めにパスタを作りました。

ウメザワさんの体調がまだ良くないのでもう一泊決定。なんで明日は市内観光にでも行ってきます。


Day 192: 1 Feb 2011

Antigua Guatemala

I woke up early. Surfing Internet before breakfast. After having breakfast, Akira and I researched which border we should cross to El Salvador and beyond. We chose to take the route 2 to El Salvador.

I tried to find "Food Court" in the market but I could not find it any how. So I bought fried chicken at a stole. 2 large pieces of chicken and chips cost 12Qs.

I wanted to take shower and do some laundry but the town had got a water failure. We got water supply but it was stored rain water. The shower was not working.

I borrowed a guid book for Central America from Kei and copied the city maps and accomodation info. So now I am ready to go!

But Akira is not in a good shape, so we decided to stay one more day here.
I will do some sightseeing in the town tomorrow.

Day 191: 2011年1月31日

Flores - Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala

朝5時ごろ目が覚めたら渋滞にハマッてました、バス。また眠りに入り7時前に起きたらグアテマラシティ市内に入ってるとは思うのですが、すごい渋滞。
結局8時前にバスターミナルに到着し、降りたらタクシーの客引き。コレクティーボは周りに見当たりません。
タクシーの運転手が言うには40Qで乗り合いバス停まで行ってやると。まぁ、いいかということで、タクシーに乗り込みました。乗り合いバス停はかなり離れてます。ZONA1にあります。あの古めかしいちょっと派手派手なバスです。始めはワシらを入れて3人しか客がいなかったのですが、順々に客を拾っていき（バス停じゃなくて道で拾っていきます）、ついには満席。二人掛けのシートには3人掛けてそれでも足りなくて立ち乗り客まで出る始末。料金は8Qと格安。タクシーの料金を入れても28Qなのでコレクティーボよりも安く済みました。それにしてもグアテマラシティに向かう車線はずーっと渋滞してます。アンティグアを出て西を向かうときはグアテマラシティを外さないとな。

結局客を拾うのにのろのろ走っていたで（グアテマラシティを抜けるのに）アンティグアに着いたころには9時を回ってました。ペンション田代に戻りチェックイン。また3階の屋根裏部屋にしました。

朝飯はメルカドでタマレス。甘いタマレスが以外に美味いです。宿に戻りGSのアクセルワイヤーをチャック。切れてないですが、スロットルからキーキー音がします。まぁ、さしあたり問題はなさそうなので、あまりイジらずにそのままにしました。もし何かあったらコスタリカかパナマで修理ですね。

銀行にドルを換金に行き、昼飯の食材を買って宿で昼飯。ナオコさんとちょっとお話をしました。

夕方までブログのアップ。夕飯はオットギ。夜は慶くん(O阪外語大学の学生さん。スペイン語専修でジャズピアニスト）とナオコさん（アンティグアにスペイン語学留学中）と歓談。みなさん色々な人生を歩んでますね。明日は出発の準備とルートを決めます。今年ももう1ヵ月経ってしまいました・・・。


Day 191: 31 Jan 2011

Flores - Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala

Around 5am when I woke up, we were caught in a heavy traffic. It looked like we were the frindge of Guatemala City already. I went back to sleep and when I woke up again around 7am, we were in Guatemala City but caught in a heavy traffic still. The traffic of this city is terrible... 

It was around 8am we arrived the bus terminal. We could not see any Collectivo around and those taxi drivers came to us and asked us where we were going. We negociated with one of them to take us a bus stop for Antigua. He said 40Q for 2 people. 

The bus stop was a bit far away from the bus terminal. It is in ZONA 1. The bus is that old bus I have been seeing since entered in Guatemala. I wanted to ride on it, so I was lucky. When we left the bus stop, there were only 3 passengers including us, but the bus was picking us passengers on the way and it became really full by the time leaving Guatemala City. Each seat was for 2 people but 3 people sat on every seat and there were passengers standing. The cost was 8Q, so even including the cost of the taxi, we paid less than if we took a Collectivo.

We were heading to Antigua, and seeing the opposite lane. The way to Guatemala City was full of cars and bus, terrible, terrible traffic. When we leave Antigua, we should avoid Guatmala City.

It took more than 1 hour to get to Antigua. We went back to Pension Tashiro and checked in again. Waled to the Market and had Tamales as breakfast. The sweet Tamale was quite good and I liked it. It cost 5Q each. 

I checked the accerator cable of my GS and there was no wear. The noise is coming from, probably, a throttle valve. As I cannot do anything with it, I decided to leave it. If anything goes wrong, I will get it serviced in Costa Rica or Panama.

I went to a bank to exchange another US$50 to Qs. It became 388Qs. Back to th hostel and I updated my blog and chat with Naoko, who is studying Spanish here in Antigua.

In the evening, Kei, Naoko and I talked till late. Everyone is having an interesting life.

Day 190: 2011年1月30日

Flores - Tikal - Flores to Guatemala City

今日はいよいよティカル遺跡に行きます！少年の頃から憧れていたあのテイカルに遂にいけます！
朝早く起きて、チェックアウト。バスターミナルまで歩いて行くと早速ティカルへのコレクティーボの客引きがいました。往復で80Q。ちょっと高いなぁ。でも他のエージェントやってないんですよね。日曜だからか？普通稼ぎ時なんだがな、日曜日。丁度コレクティーボは出発しようとしてたのでエージェントはそれに乗せたがってましたが、メシがまだなので9時15分のにしました。近くの食堂でコミーダ・コリーダ20Qを。

9時15分の便は結局客があまり集まらないと30分も待って出発。カナダ人のねーちゃん、ウメザワさんとワシの3人だけ。1時間以上かかってティカルに到着したのは11時過ぎでした。

チケットは情報どおり150Q。遺跡内の地図は20Qで売ってますが、そんなものは買いません。富永地図ありますし、看板の地図をデジカメでパシャリです。中には食堂はないので入り口付近の屋台でタマレス5Qを早めの昼飯に。






いやー、ティカルいいですねぇ。アクロポリスから眺める神殿1号と2号。これぞ長年憧れてきた光景です。目の前に広がってます！メキシコの遺跡と違って修復もちゃんと漆喰を使ったり不自然にならないよう配慮が感じられます。ヒツジも大喜びです！







ティカルはもっと暑いかと思ったのですがそれほどでもないですね。しかし歩き回るので午後には汗でベタベタになりましたが。

3号神殿は何故だか未発掘でジャングルに囲まれてます、というか山にしか見えません(左の写真）。しかしちょっと離れてみると神殿の天辺が見えるんです（右の写真）。いいですねぇ。

4号神殿は（修復中ですが天辺まで登れます。そこからの景色は！絶景！1号と2号神殿を遠くに、3号を手前に、そして辺りはジャングル。いやー、ティカルきてよかったです！

4号神殿から失われた世界（3年位前に女性が転落死してから登れなくなりました。以前は夕日の名所でした。）、最近発掘された7つの神殿を経由して5号神殿まで。







5号神殿も天辺まで登れるのですが階段のきついこと！オリジナルの階段は封鎖されていて登れないのですが、左横に木の階段があります。角度は70度を越えてますね。そういえば、テイカルの神殿はどう見ても60度ちかくの角度で建てられています。だから、シュッとしてるんですね、姿が。

何回かドリンク休憩してグループHやグループGなどほぼすべての見所を見ました。もうへとへとです。時刻も4時過ぎ。5時に迎えが来るのでいい時間です。

5時に出発して6時ごろにはフローレスに帰ってきました。休んだせいか体力は快復したのでフローレス島まで歩いていきました。ここは我々が１泊したサンタ・エレナ地区とは違い完全に観光地化されています。北米からの観光客多し。「すいか」という日本食レストランがあるというので行ってみましたが、日曜定休日…。仕方が無いのでまたバスターミナルまで歩いていき近くの屋台でコミーダ・コリーダ。炭火で焼いた鶏肉は美味いです。

帰りのバスは１０時発なので、それまで時間をつぶします。朝飯を食べた店でドリンクをちびちび飲みながらウメザワさんと歓談。１０時きっかりにバスは出発しグアテマラシティへ。今回は１等バスです。５０Q増しですが、2等はストップが多いので眠りを妨げられるかなと思ったんですね。しかし、1等にもマイナス面が・・・。エアコンが効きすぎていて寒い。こりゃ風邪を引くかもな・・・。

Day 190: 30 Jan 2011

Flores - Tikal - Flores to Guatemala City

Finally I can go to see Maya ruins Tikal. I have been dreaming to go there since I was a kid.
We woke up early and went to the bus terminal to find a Collectivo to Tikal. A guy came to us and took us a travel agency for the collectivo. The return ticket cost 80Qs, which was 20Qs more expensive as we expected but no other agencies open... So we took it. After having breakfast at a nearby shop (for 25Qs with drink), we waited for our transport. It supposed to leave at 9:15am but as there were no many passengers, we gotta wait for others. We waited for 30mins but we got only another passengers. 

It took one hour or s to get to Tikal. It was around 11am. The entrance fee was 150Qs as we expected. It is pretty expensive considering the prices in Guatemala. The map of the park costs 20Qs, which we did not buy. We took a poto of the map at the information instead. We had tamales (5Qs) for early lunch as there is no food sold inside the park.    

TIkal is so magnificent! I like te view of Temple I and II from the North Acropolice. The temple III has not been excavated, so it looks like a hill covered by lots of vegetation. But If I look from a little far, I could see the top of the temple building! It was an amazing view as well.

Temple IV was under restoration, but we could climb up to the top. The view from the top was stunning!!!
I could see Temple I and II far away with North Acropolice, and the top of Temple III close by. All of them were sorounded by jungle. What a view..

We walked to The lost world, where used to be the best spot for the sunset. The pyramid is now not peritted to climb up since a lady fell off from the steep stairs of the pyramd and died 3 years ago. 

Visiting 7 temples, which were excavated and restored in recent years. The photos showing how those looked like before the excavation. I respect those archeologists worked on this site. Good job!

Temple V isalso amazing. We could not climb up by te original stairs, but we could with the wooden stairs. It was so steep! I guess it was more than 70°! The view from the top was also magnificent. Temple I and II in front of us. The temples of Tikal were built so steep. That makes the temples of Tikal lok different from the buildings of other ruins.

We also went to Group H and G later on. It wasn't htat hot and humid as I expected, but after walking around so much, sweaty and sticky all over my body.

The time was after 4pm. The colectivo will pick us up at 5pm, so we went outside wait for it, but it was there already!

We came back to Flores around 6pm. After having restin the car, we got back our energy again so we walked to Isla de Flores to look around. According to the map I have, there is a Japanese restaurant "Suika". So we went there to have our dinner. But it was closed on Sunday!
So we walked back to the bus terminal at Santa Elena and had diner at a stole. BBQ chicken grlled by charcoal was yummy.

Our bus to Guatemala City was at 10pm, so we killed our time at a restaurant having a drink. We took Primela class this time as Segundo class has too many stops which will disturb our seep. But the Primela class has air-cond on, and it was soooo cold. I could not have a good slep becase of that....
I might cath cold again....

Day 189: 2011年1月29日

Antigua Guatemala to Flores

今日は朝8時半に迎えが来るので7時に起床。
オットギに七面鳥のハムを入れて朝から贅沢。ティカルへの道連れウメザワさんも朝からオットギ。

出発前におもむろにGSのアクセルを回したら、キーキー鳴ってなんか引っかかる感じがします。立ちゴケした時に起こそうとして変な力が入ってワイヤーを伸ばしたかなんかしたんですかね!？時間が無いのでティカルから帰ってきてから見てみたいと思います。

時間通り8時半に迎えが来ました。なかなかグアテマラの時間は正確ですね！
しかし、アンティグアの石畳は走りにくいですね。車やバイク、自転車、徒歩、馬車、どれにしても走りにくい。昔の石畳を補修して古都の印象を維持しているのでしょうが、この石畳は無いですね。

何組か他の客をピックアップしてグアテマラシティに向かいます。グアテマラシティは高い建物こそ無いですが、かなりの都会です。町並みはメキシコシティよりもアメリカの町並みっぽいですね。そういえばグアテマラ領に入ってから日本車が多くなりました。メキシコではVWやアメ車が多かったんですがね。

8時半に宿を出て、ワシらがフローレス行きのバスターミナルに着いたのは10時半ごろ。バスのチケットには11時とありますが、実際に出発するのは12時だとのこと。やはりグアテマラも時間にはルーズだったのか…。バスの会社はFuente del Norte (FDN)です。

近くのフライドチキン屋でテイクアウェイをして昼飯。21Qで大きなチキン2ピースにチップスとコールスロー付き。大体メキシコと同じくらいの値段ですね。なんとBIMBOの車発見！「Para Guatmala」なんて書いてありますが、メキシコの会社です。中米を席巻しています、BIMBO。白い悪魔です。

バスは12時ごろに出発。お腹いっぱいののせいか、直ぐに寝てしまいました。強い陽射と暑さで目が覚めたのは3時ごろ。流石に標高が下がると熱帯です。景色も熱帯です。

途中で降りる客、拾われる客。結構ストップが多いですね。

グアテマラシティからフォローレスまで8時間くらいと聞いていたのですが、8時を過ぎてもいっこうにフローレスに着く気配がありません…。9時を過ぎたくらいにちょっとした街に着いたので、ここがフローレスかと思ったら、バスの運転手の家(?)の前でストップ。ここでバスのチケットを管理していたおっちゃんに運転手交代。???です。さらにここから1時間半くらい走ってようやくフローレスに到着。もう11時前です。10時間半以上バスに乗っていたことになります。

客引きを掻い潜り、歩いていきます。富永マップで泊まる宿は目星を付けておいたのですが、暗いし道の名前が書いてないのでイマイチわかりません。コンチネンタルと云う宿を目指していたのですが、中々見つかりません。タコス屋台の兄ちゃんに聞いたらあと2ブロックだと言っていたんですが、ないんですよね。ホテル・フィエスタというのがあったので、値段を聞いたら1人で80Q（多分）。高いので止めました。富永マップを見せて、今何処なのかを聞いたら、かなり北に来すぎてるようです。コンチネンタルは遥か南です。でも、中米人に道を聞いてもあんまり信用できないんですよね。

でも仕方が無いので、来た道を戻り始めたらタクシーに声をかけられました。ためしに「コンチネンタルを知ってるか？」と聞いたら、「3キロは有る」、と。「そんな筈は無いでしょう」、って言ったら、「有る」、と。いくらか聞いたら1人10Q。もう11時を過ぎてるのでそのタクシーに乗りました。

が、どうもフローレス島に向かってるんですよね！「コンチネンタルはサンタ・エレナ地区にある！」て言ったら、「そうか、もう1つのコンチネンタルか」なんて白々しくぬかします。でも何処かは知らないようです。ためしにもう1つ目星を付けていた宿アロンソを知ってるか？と聞いたら知っていたのでそこまで行ってもらいました。

アロンソはボロ宿です。ツインで1人30Q.シャワーは水だけです。チェックインをして晩飯を食べにバスターミナル近くまで歩いていったら、コンチネンタル、ありました。しかもホテル・フィエスタの隣です・・・。看板に電気が付いてなかったので気付かなかったんですね。レセプションも閉まってますね。

屋台は閉店間際でしたが15Qでなかなかボリュームのあるのが食べられました。

宿にもどり水シャワーを浴びて、日記をつけたら、もう限界です。寝ます。
明日はバスターミナルでティカルまでのコレクティーボを捕まえないと。


Day 189: 29 Jan 2011

Antigua Guatemala to Flores

Akira and I woke up around 7am as our pick up was at 8:30am.
I made a bowl of instant noodle with Tourkey ham for breakfast. Akira also had a bowl of instant noodle.

Before leaving Pension Tashiro, I turned the accelerator throttle of my GS. It made a noise like "Qui Qui Qui..." and I felt it was heavier than usual. It could be damaged while I tried to lift it up two days ago when I tipped it over.... I turned the accelator really hard when I tried to life it up...  
I wanted to check but I did not have enough time, so I have to do it when I come back from Tikal. 

The cllectivo arrived on time at 8:30am and picked up few more passengers in Antigua, then headed to Guatemala City. The traffic in Guatemala City is terrible. We got to the bus terminal just before 10:30am. So we missed the morning service to Flores. Our bus was scheduled on 11:30am but actually it would leave on 12:00 noon. 

We had fried chicken for lunch (21Qs). I saw a BIMBO pick-up in front of the bus stop! BIMBO is the Mexican bread maker and it is ow dominating through out Central America. On the pick-up, it states "Para Guatemala" though.

The bus left at 12:00 noon. I was so full, so I went asleep soon. I woke up around 3pm as it was really hot and sunny. The scenary had changed to tropic. 

Pur bus was Segund class and stoped many times for the passengers getting off and coming in. We heard it would take 8 hours to Flores but after 8pm, it did not look like we were near to Flores at all. 
After 9pm, we got to a small town and we thought it was Flores. But the bus stopped in front of a house, where the bus driver got off. I reckon it is his house. The another guy (sorting out tickets and seats) took over the driver's seat and continued for more than 1 hour to get to Flores. It was just before 11pm. So we were on the bus nearlly 11 hours.

We had 2 hostels in mind to stay tonight. Many of taxi drivers came to us but we walked into the town. We were not really sure where we were as there was no street name. I asked where is the hotel Continental to a guy at a taqueria. He told me that it would be 2 blocks away. But we could not find it.

We saw another hotel "Fiesta". We asked the price but it was too expensive (80Qs per person). So we asked where we were on the map. The guy pointed at the north of Santa Elena area. Hotel Continental should be south of where we were.

So we walked back to south but a taxi driver talked to us. We asked if he knew where the hotel was. He said it would be 3kms away! That's no way, but he insisted. So we got on the taxi as he said the cost was 10Qs each. 

But he took us to the Isla de Flores. The hotel should be in Santa Elena area. I told him that and he said "Oh, another Hotel Continental..." Bullshit! But he did not know "Another Hotel Continental", so I asked if he knew Hotel Alonso. And he knew it. He took us there. 

The twin room cost 30Qs each. The buidling and facilities were shabby but it was good enough for us.
We waked back to the bus terminal where a few stoles were still open for sapper. On the way we found Hotel Continental. It was next to Hotel Fiesta... But the sign got no light and no reception open. 

We had a comida corrida at 15Qs and went back to the hotel. I took a shower (cold water only) and went to sleep. Tomorrow we gotta get up early to find a collectivo toTikal.
