Day 304: 2011年5月24日

Zumbahua to Lagua Quilotoa
31,958km to 31,973km = 15km

朝7時ごろ起床。流石に標高3,500mを超えてるので夜は寒いです。何回か目覚めてしまいました。朝食も下のレストランで。デーブの姿は無いのでもう出発してしまったのでしょう。朝飯を頼んだらパンとゆで卵が一個と珈琲が出てきました。食べ終わってウベと歓談してると、「米もいるか？」と訊かれたので、「是非」と。そうしたらご飯に肉、サラダが出てきました。1.5ドルです。まぁ、キロトア湖周辺には大したレストランもないし高いでしょうから大目の朝飯が丁度いいでしょう。

それにしてもこの街（村）の人は愛想が良いです。皆挨拶してきます。ほぼ全員インディヘナなんです。コロンビアと違ってエクアドルはインディヘナの文化が強く残ってます。

9時ごろに出発。給油をしてくねくね道を登っていきます。そしたらデーブを発見！7時半ころに出発したそうで。結構遠くまで来てます。キロトア湖で会おう！ということでワシらは先に。



キロトア湖に着くとゲートがあり入園料（公園になってるんですね）2ドル。ゲートをくぐりちょっと進んだらアダムがいました！マークとクレアもいます。彼らは昨日コトパクシ国立公園の入り口で再会しここでキャンプしたそうです。早速テントを建ててトレッキングの準備です。

カルデラの外周は5時間コースとのことで食料と水を持っていきます。クレアはまだ高山病があるのでお留守番。

キャンプサイトからギャップを抜けると下に湖が！湖の淵はエメラルドグリーン。雲に山肌。絶景ですな！Que bunena vista!　ヒツジも大喜び。これは来た甲斐があった！


流石にここは高山なので風が冷たいです。しかし日差しは強し。トレッキングはなかなかハード。高山のせいもありますが、足元が結構滑るんです。登りはまだいいとしても下りが難しいですね。新しいスポーツサンダル（Keen)を買って正解ですね。

色んな花が咲き乱れ、右手の目下には美しい湖と荒々しい山肌。左手には村々、畑、谷が見えます。「あぁ、アンデスにいるんだなぁ」と実感できる場所です。ここに来てよかった。しかも仲間と一緒ですからね。


クレーターの半分を歩いたところで昼飯。スナックバーを2つとマークが分けてくれたナッツを。ここまで大体2時間とちょっと。雲が湖に降りて行ったり、幻想的な風景。本当にいいところですね。







半分過ぎた辺りに結構な登りがありこれはきつかった!下りで1回滑ってこけました、が、無事でした。


残りあと4分の1くらいのところで白いアルパカの群れが！赤ちゃんもいます。ヒツジも友達に会えて喜んでます。彼らの歩きっぷりはなかなかのものです。美しい動物ですね。今回のトレッキングに花を添えてくれました。

4時間とちょっとでキャンプ場に戻ってこれました。いやー、疲れた、疲れた。キャンプ場は霧に包まれてます。前に歩いている人がいたのですがなんとデーブ！ワシらの後を追いかけていたのですが、ワシらが店で休んでいるときに追い抜いたのだそうな。すごいタフなおっちゃんだな。

夜は皆で料理。パスタを作りました。キャンプファイヤーを囲んで食べるのは楽しいですねぇ。

Day 304: 24 MAY 2011Zumbahua to Lagua Quilotoa

It was cold lst night as the altitude here was more than 3,500m. We woke up around 7am.
We had breakfast at the restaurant down stair, very big breakfast for US$1.5. Dave wasn't there, so we supposed he took off to Lake Quilotoa already.

Everyone in this village was very friendly. Almost all the population of this village was indigenous people. Unlike Colombia, here Ecuador maintains the heritage of pre-Colombus culture a lot and I like that.

We left the hotel around 9am. We gased up our bikes and went through curves. And we saw Dave! He left the hotel around 7:30am and already walked far distance. He was a tough doode.

To enter Lake Quilotoa, we had pay US$2. We road a few hundred meter and the road ended. Then we saw Adam! He was camping here last night and about to go for a hike around the rim of the crator. Mark and Claire were there also!

Quickly built up our tents and prepared for hiking. As Claire did not feel well due to the altitude (more than 3,800m), she decided to stay at the campsite.

There was a gap in front of our campsite. Passing through the gap, the crator lake "Quilotoa" showed its magnificent appearance. A very beautiful lake it was. The set up was just perfect. The scenary made us think "we are really n the middle of Andes". I was glad I went there.

The wind was really cold but the sun was very strong. The trecking track was pretty tough. Lots of up and down, loose gravels, and high altitude. But we did enjoyed the trecking.

There were lots of wild flowers. We had lunch break around halfway of the rim. It took around 2 hours to get there. We could see the changes in weather, how coulds were developped, and those clouds came down to the lake.

After lunch we had to face the biggest climb of the day. It was steep and hard, but we made it!
But the worst part was descending. I slipped and fell once, but I was OK.

We encountered with a pack of white Alpacas. They were so cute. There was a baby too. Mr. Sheep was very happy to see them.We could forget about fatigue.

We completed the loop in 4 hours or so. We had a rest at a shop near our campsite, and I saw a guy in front of us, and he was Dave!He was trying to catch us and overtook us while we having the break. What a tough guy.

We cooked pasta for dinner. Eating by the camp fire with friends was priceless!

Day 303: 2011年5月23日

Popallacta to Zumbahua

昨晩は流石に標高3,300メートルなので寒くなりました。寝袋の上にポンチョを被せて寒さ対策。ポンチョ買ってよかったです。

雨は早朝まで降ってたみたいですが、朝には止んでました。しかし雨と露のせいでテントはビチョビチョです。乾かせるかなぁ。

朝飯やなにやらでグダグダしてたら雲が切れてきて晴れ間が覗きました。そして雪山チラリと。赤道直下で雪山ってなんか不思議ですよね。テントやグラウンドシートもほぼ乾かすことが出来ました。しかし、また曇り始めて雨もちらほら。

天気が悪いのでコトパクシ火山（5,897m)の山小屋カラスール（Cara Sur)に行っても仕方が無いとのことでマークとクレアはキロトア湖（Laguna Quilotoa)に行くことに。ウベとワシは今日天気が悪くても明朝晴れてコトパクシ火山の山頂が見えるかもしれないのでカラ・スールに行くことに。アダムはキトに戻ってストーブを買ってからカラ・スールでワシ等と合流することに。ロード・オブ・ザ・リングス(Lord of the Rings)のフェローシップが壊れたみたいに皆別々の道を行きます。

ようやく出発したのは11時ごろ。ダートを走り本線へ。流石に標高が高いので加速にモタツキがありますね。
途中検問に引っかかりました。ペルミソと免許証を提示してしばらく待たされた後再出発。ここでマークとクレアが追いつきました。検問に引っかかる前に先に行ってもらいました。昼飯は路肩の露店で1.25ドル。

カラ・スールへの道は標識が出ていないので何回かLassoの街を行ったりきたり。何回か人に訊ねてようやく入り口のダートロードを見つけました。ダートは結構ハードです。川越まであります！楽しいけどタイヤがほぼオンロード使用なのでフロントのグリップが殆どありません。

コトパクシ(Coptopaxi）の標識に従ってダートを走っていたら国立公園の入り口に。ここから先は車両は入れないのです。ってことは道を間違えた。カラ・スールはコトパクシ火山の南側なので来た道を戻り川を越えて現地の人に訊ねてようやくカラ・スールへの道を発見。

そかし路面状況は悪し!火山灰なんですかね、フカフカの土にそれが濡れて泥上になったところもあります。フカフカ土は結構深いのでハンドルが取られます…。慎重に行きますがコケテしまいました。ウベもこのまま続くなら諦めようと思ってたので引き返すことに。丁度ポリスが4WDで来たので訊くとこの先は路面が更に悪くなるとのこと。行かなくて良かった。フカフカ土を抜け出しホッとして油断したらちょっと深い土にハンドルを取られてまた転倒!　今日2回目です。2人いるのでバイクを起こすの簡単ですがタイヤを積んでオンロードタイヤでダートを走るのは難しいです…。

カラ・スールは諦めてマークとクレアと同じキロトア湖を目指すことに。しかしもう4時なので行ける所まで。ラタクンガ（Latacunga)から本線を外れてプヒリ（Pujili)方面へ。山道を登っていきます。景色が最高！しかし残念だったのはコトパクシの山頂が雲に隠れてその全容を拝めなかったことですね。

ズンバウア（Zumbahua)に6時前に到着。ホテル・オロ・ベルデ(Hotel Oro Verde)はガレージ付で1人6ドル。１階はレストランで夕飯1.5ドル。なかなかのディールです。


オーストラリア人のデーブに会いました。今日一日英語を話してなかったので、というかスペイン語が殆ど出来ないので会話に飢えていたので良くしゃべります。ズンバウア手前14キロのティグアから歩いてきたそうです。明日はキロトア湖まで歩くのだそう。結構年をとってるのにやるなオージー。

丁度一緒のホテルなので夕飯を一緒にすることに。彼はベジタリアンなのでご飯とスクランブルエッグ、揚げバナナを。ウベとワシはスープにご飯、肉、サラダ、揚げバナナ。夕飯後は隣のバー（?)に行って一杯。夜は何もすることが無いので早めに寝ました。明日はキロトア湖でキャンプ。キロトア湖はクレーター湖。
火山クレーターの淵を歩く予定です。　



Day 303: 23 MAY 2011

Popallacta to Zumbahua

It was pretty cold last night. No wonder the elevation was more than 3,300m there. But I was fine as I used the poncho I bought at Otavalo Market as a blanket on top o fthe sleeeping bag.

It was raining till early morning. The tent was very wet and I worrid if it could be dry before we took off.

We were making breakfast and taking time, then the clouds were breaking up. We could see a bit of the snow capped volcano from the break of the clouds. It was a bit strange experience to see the snowy mountain at the ecuator.  Luckily the tent and the groud sheet were dry but it started to sprinkle again....

Uwe and I was heading to Cara Sur - a refugee camp of Cotopaxi. But as the weather was bad, Mark and Claire decided not to go to Cara Sur and were heading to Lake Quilotoa directly. Adam needed to o back to Quito to buy a new stove, then he would catch us up at Cara Sur.

We left the camp site around 11am. We went back to the main highway through the dirt road. I felt acceralation was not as good due to hight altitude.

There was a police check point and we stuck there for a while. Mark and Claire caught us there but we told them to go ahead as the police might give us hard time. It wasn't much trouble at the check point but we waisted 10mins or more there.

The peak of Cotopaxi was covered by clouds, so we could not see its mighty appearance.
We could not find the entrance to Cara Sur at Lasso. We asked around and finally found the sign "Cotopaxi". It was a dirt road and there was a river crossing! My tyres were almost road tyres, so I got to be very careful going through gravels.

We came to the entrance of National Park. So we took a wrong way. The entrance was the north side of Cotopaxi, but Cara Sur would be at the south end. So we turned back and crossed the river and asked the locals again. We couldfind the road to Cara Sur, but the condition was pretty bad. Very deep ashy dirt. We rode for a while but it was hard for us. I dropped my bike... And decided to turn back.

At the exit of the ashy dirt, I dropped the bike again!! Twice in a day!!

We went back to Panamerican Highway and headed to Lake Quilotoa. But it was already 4pm. At Latacunga, we took our route to the west, to Pujili. The road was faburous and the view was fantastic!

Arrived at a village of Zumbahua before 6pm. There was just another 14km to Lake Quilotoa, but we decided to stay at Zumbahua. The hotel we stayed "Hotel Oro Verde" was pretty nice. US$6p.p with a garage. The ground floor of the hotel was a restaurant.

We walked around the village. It was sarrounded by the mountains and very beutiful. We went an Aussie guy - Dave. He walked from Tigua - 13km away from Zumbahua and he was planning to walk to Lake Quilotoa tomorrow. He said he was thirsty for speaking in English, so he talked a lot. As he was staying at the same hotel, we had dinner together (US$1.5) and went for a drink at the next door.  We will get to the lake tomorrow and will hike around the rim of the crator.

Day 302: 2011年5月22日

Quito to Popallacta

今日は出発の日。天気はまぁまぁですね。昨晩遅かったので7時過ぎに起きました。朝飯を食べて荷物の整理を始めます。グリーンベイ・パッカーズのクロックスに別れを告げました・・・。どうやら掃除のおばちゃんがもらってくれるらしいです。


11時に出発の予定でしたが、アダムのリアアクシルのベアリングがガタガタするのを発見したので修理を始めました。流石アダムです、1時間でベアリング交換完了！12時過ぎに出発できました。

ラウル・カーラ宅に行き合流。ラウル先導でポパジャクタ(Popallacta）まで走ります。途中でガソリン休憩したり、海パンを買いにいたり（ラウルが）、昼飯を食べたりして1時半。雲行きが怪しくなってきました。メシを食べ終わったころにはポツポツと。しかしそんなに大した雨じゃないのが幸いです。

くねくね道を越えて行きます。ラウルが「セカンダリー・ロード（2級道路）で行くか？」というので「いいよ！」と言ったらダートでした。久しぶりのダートですね。楽しいけど、タイヤを運んでるので飛ばせません。しかも最後の辺りでデカイ水溜りがあり泥ではまってしまいました…。幸いマークとクレアが後続だったので、マークに押してもらって脱出。

それからまた舗装路に出てしばらく行くとポパジャクタのサインが出ました。わき道にそれてまたダート。2－3キロ走ると今日の目的地温泉リゾートです。

キャンプは1人6ドルですがアダムとクレアが値切って4ドルになりました。やるな！バハ・カリフォルニア以来のキャンプです。あれは10月半ばだったので7ヶ月ぶりのキャンプですか。

温泉は1人7ドル。ちょっと高いですね。色んな温度のプールがあります。一番熱いので41－2℃くらいですかね。4時くらいから7時半くらいまで湯船に浸かってました。こんなに長い間湯船に浸かってたのは初めてですね。雨が降ったり止んだり。温かい湯船に冷たい雨。なかなかオツなものです。晴れていれば雪山が見えるはずなんですがね。それが残念です。

ラウル・カーラは明日仕事があるので5時ごろ帰りました。来月ペルーまでバイクで来るのでペルーのどこかで再会できることを約束して別れました。とっても良い人たちですね。Muchas Gracias mis amigos. Nos Vemos pronto!

7時半にあがると、めちゃくちゃ寒い。テントに戻り、寝袋を出すのを忘れたのに気がついてバイクに戻ると、セキュリティーが「テントサイト代払って」と。明日の朝支払いかと思ってたので払ってなかったんですね。みんなを呼びに行って4ドルづつ払おうとしたら「1人6ドル」と。「でもキャンプサイトのおっさんが4ドルって言ったよ」と言ったら、レジのおばさんは、「明日その人が来たらでいいよ」と言ってくれたのですが、セキュリティーが「今払わないと駄目」と。

そしてホテルのある方に連れて行かれました。ここでホテルのレセプションのオヤジに交渉するも、駄目。6ドルの一点張り。キャンプ場のオヤジに電話すると「6ドルとしか言っていない」と。どうなってるんだ？まぁ、払わないと追い出されるので6ドル払うことにしました。

アダムに「どうなってるんだ？」と訊いたら「たぶんテント1つ6ドルで24ドルと言ったと思うんだけど、クレアは1人4ドルと理解したんだよね」と。なるほど、スペイン語での遣り取りだから全く違った理解をしたかも…。
次回は値切ったらすぐに払わないといけませんね。

夕飯は面倒くさいのでクッキーにティー。ウベはインスタントラーメン。マークとクレアはサンドイッチ。
アダムはストーブが壊れたのか炎上!!　明日キトに戻り新しいストーブを買わなければです。

夕飯後皆テントにもぐりこみました。お休み!!



Day 302: 22 MAY 2011

Quito to Popallacta

The weather was not bad in the morning. We had a late evening but \managed to get up around 7am.
We were planning to leave by 11am, but Adam foud out his rear axile bearing was wabbling. So he started to replace it. But within 1 hour, he completed the job and we could take off around 12 noon. He is a very good rider and also good mechanic!!

We went to Raul and Karla's place, and Raul leaded us the way. We made a fuel stop, a shopping stop, and a lunch stop, then it started to rain. But it wasn't heavy, so no problem at all.

We went through a pass, lots of curves! I liked that. Raul asked us if we wanted to take a secondary road and we said yes. It was a dirt road. It had been a qhile since I road on a dirt and it was fun. But as I was carrying tyres and my tyres were pretty much road tyres, I could not ride fast. Near the end of the dirt road, there was a large puddle and I stuck in mud... Luckily Mark helpded me to get out there.

Then we came back to the main road and continued to Popallacta. Just before arriving Popallacta, we made another turn off to a dirt road. After 2 - 3km of the dirt riding, we arrived at a thermal pool resort.

There was a camp site cost US$6p.p, but Claire and Adam got a discount from a guy for US$4p.p. A good job guys!! It had been long time since I camped last time in Baja California. Some 7months ago. We put up our tents and went for the thermal pool.

The entrance of the thermal pool cost US$7p.p. It was very expensive but there were many pools with different temparature. The hottest pool was around 41-42 degrees. The rain was on and off. Soaking the body in hot bath, the cold rain coming down from above, I certainly enjoyed that.

Raul and Karla had to leave around 5pm as they had to work tomorrow, plus tomorrow is her kid's birthday. They will go to Peru next month, so we promised to catch up in Peru. Muchas gracias para tus hospitalidad, mis amigos!! 

We stayed in the bath till 7:30pm, for 3 1/2 hours! I have never stayed in a bath such a long time. We spent great time there but one thing was missing. If it was clear weather, we could see a snow capped volcano though.

It was really cold after we came out from the hot bath. We went back to the camp site and started to prepare dinner. I realised I forgot to take out my sleeping bag from the top case and went back to the bike. And a security guard said we had to pay for the camp site. Oh well, we thought we could pay in the morning. Anyway, I went to the camp site and got Mark and Uwe to pay for everyone. But the lady at the reception said "US$6p.p".

We explained that the guy at the camp site said US$4p.p. But he went home. The lady said we could pay tomorrow morning when the guy return, but the security guard said we had to pay now or leave. We argued for a bit and he took us to a hotel to talk with another guy.

The guy at the hotel reception, Byron, said we had to pay US$6 to stay tonight. We explained the situation. Byron called his boss but the boss said we had to pay US$6.

He called the guy at the camp site but he said he did not gave us the discount at all... So Byron said we could settle when the guy at the camp site comes back tomorrow morning. Then we returned to our camp site.

But I was called by the security guard again and he said we had to pay now or leave... So we went back to the hotel and talked to Byron. He said we had to pay US$6 each now and if another guy agreed with the said price US$4, he will pay the rest.

I went back to the camp site and discussed with others. We decided to pay US$6 each reluctantly. We learnt a lesson. If we got a better price, we had to pay on the spot. Do not leave it, otherwise we will lose the good deal.

Adam was saying "Maybe the guy was saying US$24 for all of us (US$6 each tent). I heard US"4 but Claire heard US$4." So it could be the lost in translation.

It was late already when returned to the camp site. So I just had cookies and tea. Adam's stove exploded somehow. So if he cannot fix it tomorrow morning, he has to return to Quito to buy one.

Day 301: 2011年5月21日

Quito (Casa Helbling)

昨日は10時にラウルとカーラが迎えに来る予定でしたが、結局11時近くまで待ちました。流石ラテンアメリカ。
サルサ・クラブはまだ盛り上がってないとのことで、とりあえずこの間のバーへ。カーラがチキッとダンスのステップを教えてくれました。

さていよいよ本番!　サルサ・クラブへ。1人7ドルドリンク1杯付きとちと高し。そんなに人はいませんでしたが、みんな上手いです。クルクル廻ったりしてます。ライダー軍はこれでタジタジ。しばらく踊ってる人を見て研究します。

でもカーラが「踊ろう!!」と誘ってくるので、「こうなリャ何事も挑戦だ！」ってことでダンスフロアーへ。タダでさえ軍服にベレー帽、アジア人で目立ってるので注目の的ですが、もう気にしません。カーラに合わせて踊ります。まぁ、めちゃくちゃなんでしょうが踊ってると楽しいですね。Uweも参加。彼も独特の動きで周りを魅了。アダムは最後の最後で踊りだしました（しかも意外に様になってる!）。マークは最後まで恥ずかしがって踊りませんでしたが。ウベもワシもクエンカでサルサを習うことを真剣に考えてます。

そんな感じで2時半頃まで昨晩は遊んでました。

で、今朝は9時過ぎに起きました。カオルさんが10時半に訪ねて来たので（」ガラパゴス行きのチケットを買いに新市街まで出てきたそうです）、一緒に旧市街まで歩きました。途中公園がありなかなかいい街ですね、キト。残念ながら朝は晴れていたのですが出かける頃には曇ってました。

旧市街に入ると坂道が多くなり、石畳、教会などが多くて街並みが新市街とガラッと変わります。バシリカ大聖堂がなかなかいい感じです。



独立記念公園を見たり。ここでインカ帝国の将軍たちが火あぶりにされたそうです。なんかゴテゴテした教会も近くにあります。

昼飯はカオルさんお勧めのレストランで。エクアドルはシーフード料理が意外に美味しく、カオルさんはマグロのスープ「エンセボジャード」を、ワシはマグロのスープにチーズをぶち込んで煮込んだスープ「カスエラ」を頼みました。ここの店はカオルさんがトクさんに進められた店だそうです。そういえばトクさん「エクアドルに行ったらカスエラがお美味いですよ。」って言ってましたね。トクさんとカオルさんが言ってたように石焼ビビンバのウツワみたいなのに入れてグツグツした状態で出てきました。これに更にご飯が付いてきます。4ドルとちょっと高いですが2人前くらいのボリュームありますし、なんてったって美味い!!　流石トクさんお勧めの一品です。

それからカオルさんが泊まっているキトでの日本人定宿「スクレ」を訪ねます。途中で丘の上にあるエンジェル像が見えたり。黄色の門からエンジェル像が見えたりしてなかなかいい眺め。振り返ると、街並みもいいですね。キトの旧市街、気に入りました。コロニアル都市としてはサカテカスと同じくらい好きです。

そしていよいよ「スクレ」へ。本当はスクレに泊まりたかったのですが、バイクの駐車が面倒くさいのと（オーナーの家に停めさてくれるとのこと）バイク仲間が新市街にいるのでやめました。しかし、スクレいい場所にあります。サン・フランシスコ広場の目の前にあるのででなかなかの眺めです。








中は多少古いですが、そこまで汚くは無く個室は4ドルからと格安。しかしカッちゃんが旅した頃は（6年前？）1.5ドルだったというから物価の上昇は激しいですね。屋上からの見晴らしは最高。バシリカや他の教会、丘の上のエンジェルまで見渡せます。

それから情報ノートを見せてもらい、メルカドを見ながら腹ごなし。メルカドはヤハリごちゃごちゃしてていい感じ。しかしカオルさんはコロンビアに来る前にここでカメラをひったくられたそうです。確かに悪そうな奴等がチラホラみえます。しかも道には使用済みオムツとかが落ちてたりして汚い!　まぁ、インドに比べればまだマシなのでしょうが。

そして今日のメインイベント日本人の間で人気のアイスクリーム屋へ（現地人にも人気だそうです）。しかし!!!　閉まってました・・・。そこでカオルさんが他のアイスクリーム屋に連れて行ってくれてようやくアイスクリームにありつけました。1スクープ1ドル。クオリティーも良し!　これで満足。しかし外は雨が降り出しました。

雨が止んだので歩いてるとカオルさんのお気に入りの食堂が開いてました（昼は閉まってることが多いようです）。店名は「EL Chinito (中国の兄ちゃん）」。多分店主のあだ名なんでしょう。カオルさんをみるなり「久しぶり！コロンビアはどうだった？」とかなり気さく。臓物の煮込みや混ぜご飯が美味そうでしたが、腹いっぱいなので断念。こういう飯をコロンビアでも食べたかった。しかし、店主、どう見ても「中国兄ちゃん」ではないんだが・・・。

また雨が降り出しましたし寒くなってきたので帰ることに。カオルさんは火曜から10日間ガラパゴスに行き、帰途に戻ってからクエンカに行くそうなので、クエンカで再会できそうです。Buen Viaje mi amigo!

宿まで歩いて帰って来たら結構疲れました。8時からラウル・カーラ宅でディナーに招かれてるので、それまではネット。ブログのアップ。

結局ラウル・カーラ宅に行ったのは9時過ぎ。それから夕飯が出たのは11時近く！さすがラテン・アメリカ。ラウルの友人クリスチャン夫妻も来て（バイク乗りです）楽しい夜になりました。ラウルはデザイナー、カーラは政治家の広報の仕事をしています。クリスチャンもデザイナー。エクアドルのことを色々学べた夜になりました。2時近くまでお邪魔してました。ラウルとカーラも明日の温泉ツーリングに参加することに。

さて明日はポパジャクタ温泉へツーリング＆キャンプ。晴れると良いな。しばらくネット環境に無いのでブログノアップがしばらく出来ないかもしれません。それではまた！

It was the fun night out with Raul and Karla. I am not good at dancing, but Karla showed me how to dance, I I just followed her. I guess I was terrible, but it ws fun!! Thanks Raul and Karla to take us out for dancing!

This morning it was sunny. But by the time I went out to Old Town, it was cloudy. Clarlos came to visit me here, so wewalked to Old Town.

Old Town of QUito was very pretty. Lots of Churches, stone paved streets, up and down. Very different from New Town.

We had lunch at a restaurant where Tokutake-san recommended. I ordered Casera - Stewed TUna in cheeze sauce, and it was fantastic.

Day 300: 2011年5月20日

今日は記念すべき300日目!　でも何も祝い事はしないですが。

今日は朝から出かけました。何処へ？っていいますとキューバ大使館です。
一昨日からフィデル・カストロ・ルス前議長宛の手紙を書いてたんです。是非とも一回お会いしたいと。
まぁ、普通に考えればそんなこと許可されるはず無いのですが、何事もやってみなくてはわかりません。「為せば成る、為さねば成らぬ、何事も」です。

先ずは手紙をインターネットカフェにて印刷しバスに乗って大使館へ。大使館はオリンピック・スタジアム近くにあります。キューバの旗が昇ってると思ったのですが、旗はなし。大使館の前には人だかりが出来てました。写真は離れたところから撮りました。万が一怒られると計画がパァになるので。

セキュリティーの人が「何の用事ですか？」と訊いてきたので、「フィデル司令官に会いたいのです。手紙を持ってきました。」と応えたら、目を丸くして「フィデルって言ったよね。うーん、ちょっと待って。」と手紙を受け取って大使館の中に入っていきました。周りの人たちは「フィデルに会いたいと言ってるよ・・・」と呆れた顔をしてます。彼等に「まぁ一応試してみないと分らないからね。もしフィデルが“会う”と言ってくれれば儲け物。駄目なら仕方が無い。」と云いました。

しばらくして帰ってきて、笑顔で「職員に渡したから後は答えを待つように」と言われました。中には入れませんでしたが、まぁ、手ごたえアリ。後は大使館職員が手紙をフィデルに渡してくれればいいのですが。まぁ、失うものは何も無いので一応トライはしてみた、ということです。

宿に戻りしばらく放置していたキューバ日記の英語版を書きます。そしたらカオル先輩が11時半頃に訪ねてきました。玉麺館で昼飯。先輩が麻婆豆腐はイマイチというので、今日は焼きビーフンと中華粽を頼みました。まぁまぁでしたね。

それから学校。今日は最終日。インカの歴史を学びながら過去形の練習です。歴史は好きなので分りやすくてよかったです。

それからまた先輩と合流してJuan Veldezのカフェで歓談。夕方になると寒くなったので先輩は旧市街に返りました。明日旧市街に行くのでまた合流します。

この間知り合ったエクアドリアン・ライダーのラウル、カーラ、ダニエルとは夜10時に待ち合わせです。さてどんな夜になるのでしょう？


Day 300: 20 MAY 2011

It has been 300 days since I started this trip. Time surely flies.

I went out from the morning. Where? I went to Embassy of Cuba. I was writing a letter to Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz since Wednesday. I wrote that I would like to see him and get inspired. Well, you would say it would not happen, but if I don't try, nothing will happen.

First, I went to an Internet Cafe to print out the letter and caught a bus to Embassy. It was located near Olimpic Stadium. I thought a Cuban flag was flying, but there was no flag. Instead there was a crowd of people waiting to be served.

A security guard asked me "How could I help you?" and I answered "Yes, I would like to see Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz and I have a letter for him." When he heard "Fidel", he opened his eyes wide and asked me "You said Fidel!?" and I said "Yes". He took the letter and said "Wait here" and entered inside. Those people waiting were looking at me and wispering "Fidel....". And I said to them "I am just trying. If he says YES, that will be great. But if he does not, that's OK."

The security guard came back with a smile and said "I handed to a staff, so you just need to wait for a reply." Well I am not sure if my letter will reach Fidel, but I tried anyway. I have nothing to lose here.

Back to the hostel, I wrote some of Cuba diaries that I put away for a while. Then Carlos came to see me around 11:30am, and we went for lunch at Tallarines.

Then I went to the school. It was my last day. The teacher taught me the history of Inca, a good way of practicing past tense. I like history, so it was fun learning. I just did 4 days (2 hours each day), but I am sure my Spanish improved a lot, thanks to Sr. Alturo.

After class, Carlos and I went to Juan Veldez coffee shop to have a cuppa. But it got cold after 4pm, Carlos went back to his hostel in Old Town. Tomorrow I will visit Old Town and will see him again.

This evening from 10pm, I will go out with everyone and Ecuadorian riders (Raul, Karla, and Daniel). It will be fun!
