Day 525: 2012年1月1日

Ushuaia (Ueno Sansou)
49,654km to 49,660km = 6km

DSCF0690.jpgDSCF0691.jpg早速チェックイン。

Day 525: 01 JAN 2012

Ushuaia (Ueno Sansou)
49,654km to 49,660km = 6km

Happy New Year 2012!! I will keep travelling this year and keep writing blog.

As I was awake till 1:30am last night, I woke up around 9am today. The check out time was 12 noon, so after I updated the blog, I put away the tent.

I found there was a clack on the right pannier. After I had an accident with a bicycle in Peru, the pannier did not close properly and there was a gap between the pannier and the frame, so with vibrations, it got the clack.I would like to fix it before I leave Ushuaia.

And, the rear tyre has got no much tread left. So hopefully I can get a new tyre here, Rio Grande or Rio Gallegos.

After I said good-bye to Uwe, Matt and Ted, weleft the campground around 12 noon. I will visit them yesterday though. The hostel (actually it is a house) "Ueno Sansou" is located 3-4km east of the town.

After we checked in, the manager offered us Japanese New Year soup for us. Nice.

We cooked pasta for lunch and we played the card game "Dahab". I played it for the first time but it was fun!

As 4 of the Dahab member were leaving here at 4:30am, we were awake and taking till then. We talked about politics, current affair of Japan and many interesting topics with them. It was fun! We saw those 4 guys off and went to sleep.

Day 524: 2011年12月31日

Ushuaia (Camping Andino)
49,577km to49,654km = 77km

DSCF0678.jpgDSCF0682.jpgGPSによると南緯54度51.314 西経68度34.583 標高マイナス6㍍。

DSCF0666.jpgDSCF0672.jpg早速写真撮影。

DSCF0688.jpgDSCF0689.jpgミニ・スーパーで買出し。

Day 524: 31 DEC 2011

Ushuaia (Camping Andino)
49,577km to49,654km = 77km

The plan of the day, riding down to "The end of the road" @ Bahia Lapatia. It is located inside National Park, so we would hae to pay the entrance fee.

The campground was good but I heard that hot water is not really hot, so we decided to move to another campground. We packed up and left to Bahia Lapatia around lunch time.

Soon after we leftthe campground, Ruta 3 became unpaved. There were lots of tourist buses and mimivans, so the road was covered by dust... The entrance fee was 85ALPs!!! Very, very expensive. So Uwe decided to wait for me and Iba outside the park.

It would be less than 20km ride to "The end of the road", but somehow I felt it was further than 20km.

Then finally, finally, I arrived "The end of the world"!!! There were many motorcyclists, including Matt and his friend Ted, Paul and his wife (I met them in El Clafate), and others. There was just a sign but the feeling to be there was exceptional.

According to GPS: S54° 51.314 W068° 34.583
Altitude: -6m
The odo meter of my GS: 49,596km

I took several photos there and put my "M-26-7" sticker and "Sanbariki" sticker behind the sign.

Then I met a Paraguaian rider Cloudio and his girl friend Joselyn. He owns a motorcycle workshop in Asuncion, so he said when I come to Asuncion, I could visit them!

At National Park, there would be many treking trails and nice view points, but I went there to see "The end of the road" sign, so we left the park soon.

We went to another campground "Camping Andino" and catch up with Uwe. After lunch, Iba and I rode to Japanese hostel "Ueno Sansou", which is located outside of the town, east side.

It took a while to find the hostel, but this hostel is really famous among Japanese travelers. There we met Dai-chan who was taking care of Iba's jacket fromEster Island (she left the jacket in the hostel of Easter Island). It was full house, but the manager told us that there would be 2 beds available tomorrow, so we decided to move there from tomorrow. But there is no WiFi, and it is far from the town, it would be hard to update my blog.

Then we went for shipping to a supermarket, but all the shops in tow closed at 6pm today... it was 6:15pm already. But here at the carpark of the supermarket, I met Brazilian riders Dolor and Angela. They saw "Fazedores de Chuva" sticker given by Elton on my pannier and followed me. Then they turn out to be the friends of Elton, and they know Shigeru (DR650)!! The world is really small.

They toldme that a mimi market around the corner was still open, and we could buy some meats and drinks.

Back to the campground, we BBQed the meats and shared foods with Uwe, Matt, Ted and their Argentinian friends. It was really fun.

Then 2012 began! Hapny New Year 2012 to all!! Have a good one!!!

Day 523: 2011年12月30日

Punta Arenas - Chile to Ushuaia - Argentina (Rio Pipo)
49,102km to 49,262km = 160km (Chile side)
49,262km to 49,577km = 315km (Agentina side); Total = 475km

Buen viaje, mi amigo. Que te vaya bien!

DSCF0636.jpgDSCF0637.jpg船着場に到着し早速、チケットを購入。

DSCF0642.jpgしばらくうとうとと寝てしまいました。

DSCF0650.jpgDSCF0651.jpgDSCF0652.jpgまたしばらく走ると、なんと途中4駆が転倒していました!

DSCF0656.jpg国境を越えたら、舗装路です。

DSCF0658.jpg途中から雨が降ったり、止んだり。

(The end of the road)に行きます。

Day 523: 30 DEC 2011

Punta Arenas - Chile to Ushuaia - Argentina (Rio Pipo)
49,102km to 49,262km = 160km (Chile side)
49,262km to 49,577km = 315km (Agentina side); Total = 475km

It was raining from this morning. But it was not pouring and it would be a short ride to the wharf, so it would not be a problem. We packed up and said good-bye to Paul and left to the wharf. Mi amigo Paul, buen viaje y que te vaya bien. Nos vemos pronto!!

We arrived at the wharf around 8am. We bought the tickets. It cost 10,000CLPs for motorcycle and a passenger, and 5,500CLPs for a passenger. It wil take 2 hours toget to another shore, Porvenir.

We met 2 Kiwi riders, Rob and Joe on YAMAHA Tenere 660 and SUZUKI DR650 on the ferry.

I was sleeping for a while on he ferry. Then I saw Island of "Tierra del Fuego (Land of fire)". It was a long way from North America, indeed.

We landed on the island. We had lunch at Porvenir and head to Argentin border. The road was unpaved. The wind was really strong.

Uwe dropped his KTM when he tried to park his bike on the road side for taking photo, but nothing broke.

Then we saw a 4WD upside down on the dide of the road!!! We wondered how it happened, but we all helped to get it back upright.

There was a long queue at the border (Chilean side). It tok a while to get to our turns, but it was ver smooth process. Argentinian side was even better.

The road was paved in Argentinian side. We refuelled at San Sebastian and rode to Rio Grande. It was 6pm and the wind was still strong in the afternoon and it made us really tired. But we decided to push to Ushuaia.

Now we got the head wind. Petrol consumption increased a lot but we enjoy the rding. It rained sometimes but it was  a great ride. The view must be awesome if it was sunny.

We arrived Ushuaia at 9pm. Yes, we made it to Ushuaia - Fin del Mundo, Mr. Sheep and my GS "Esperanza".

We tried look for a hostel, but none of them had got room for 5 available. A Cabin was available, but it was too expensive. So Uwe, Iba and I went toa campground and Rob and Joe stayed at a hostel.

We pitched our tent around 10pm. We cookedpasta and Japanese cold noodle "Soumen" for dinner. Here we met Matt from the States on DR200.

We will go to "The end of the road" tomorow. I amvery excited!!

Day 520: 2011年12月27日

El Calafate (Fuji Ryokan)
48,569km

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2C9lv5t0yQ

Day 520: 27 DEC 2011

El Calafate (Fuji Ryokan)
48,569km

In the morning while I was having breakfast, I updated my blog. Iba woke up and we discussed what we would do today. If she can cancel the flight to Bolivia and get a refund, she would go to Ushuaia with us, so we went to the office of Argentina Airlines.

She could cancel the flight successfully and the lady at the office told us that Iba could get a refund through the web. So she decided to go to Ushaia with us.

If we are leaving here tomorrow, we will enter Chile tomorrow. Chile has very strict quarantine rule and check, so we have to consume our foods today, not to waste them.

We went to the supermarket to get some sharrots for making "Soba (Buckwheat noodle)". We saw a whole lamb BBQed at a restaurant. It really looked yummy, but Mr Sheep will be upset....

At the hostel, we started to make the noodle. We found a chunck of "Bife de Chorizo" in the fridge, so we cooked it too. They were excellent.

After we sent the refund request from the web site, we watched Youtube.

In the afternoon, we went to the own again to see Uwe and Paul, but they weren't at their hostel / campground.

After we came back to the hosel, Paul came to visit us. We decided to leave here at 11am tomorrow. He said Uwe and he was going to cook BBQ again tonight, but as we should finish off what we have, we stayed at the hostel and cooked buckwheat noodle.

This time, we cooked pouched eggs, vegetable soup and the noodle. While eating, Nezumi came back from Chalten and told us "Fitz Roy was excellent!". Well, I will gon there when I come back from Ushuaia.

Day 519: 2011年12月26日

El Calafate (Fuji Ryokan)
48,569km

DSCF0605.jpgDSCF0609.jpgジャガイモ、サツマイモ、玉ねぎをグリルで焼き、トマトと玉ねぎのサラダ。

Day 519: 26 DEC 2011

El Calafate (Fuji Ryokan)
48,569km

As my plan was leaving here tomorrow, I was getting ready (washed the riding jacket and pants, filling up water in the Camelback, etc). The cat @ the hostel is very very cute.

I was thinking to vist Uwe and Paul to discuss the plan for tomorrow, Iba arrived at the hostel! We kinda hooked instantly and we went to the town together for grocery shopping.

We went to Uwe's campground and we decided to have a meeting in the afternoon to talk about the plan.

After the shopping, we went back to the hostel and cooked lunch together. Iba cooked Japanese style buckwheet noodle and I cooked pasta as usual. They were really nice.

We chat @ the launge for a while and went to the town again. On the way, Uwe on his KTie found us and we went to the pub where he and Paul were having beers.

We decided to have BBQ again! So we went to shopping and set fire on coals. Paul bought "Bife de CHorizo" the best grade beef. We cooked potatos, sweet potatos, and onions on the grill. Accomapied with tomato and onion salad, excellent. The beef was cooked perfactly by Paul and we all had a great time.

Uwe and Paul like Iba as well. They ask her to join us to Ushuaia. But she has a ticket to Bolivia after the new year, so she said she will think about it.

So we decided to leave on 28th, instead of tomorrow.
