Day 195: 2011年2月4

Armenia to Rosa de Lima
27,262km  to 27,539km = 277km

DSCF3561.jpgそれにしても暑い!

Day 195: 4 Feb 2011

Armenia to Rosa de Lima
27,262km  to 27,539km = 277km

We woke up at 7am and went to have breakfast in the town. The breakfast set came with scrumbled egg, frejoles, queso, 3 tortillas and a cup of cofee. It cost 85 cents!  This is the cheapest meal I have had during this trip so far. The people here in Armenia are very friendly and now I like here, El Salvador.

As we wanted to make to Santa Rosa De Lima, the town near Honduras border, today, we did not need to hurry at all. We left the hostel Armenia at 9am and headed east.
We wanted to bypass San Salvador, the capital, but we could not find the bypass, so here we go, we were in the big city with full of traffic.

Since we were there already, we went to Excel Automotriz, the BMW dealer to check my accelerator. The staff here, Jonathan, speaks English, it was easy to communicate! But the service shop is located at different place and since a big convension is going on today and tomorrow in San Salvador, there would be no mechanic at the workshop....
Well, the accelerator is not in bad condition (it is not smooth as before though), so we took off to San Miguel. If I have time in San Jose, Costa Rica, I will take my GS to the BMW dealer there.

Jonathan told us to take a right turn at 49th Ave, which will lead to San Miguel, and we did. But it took us to CA2, running near the coast. Whih means, it is hot hot hot!!

After passing Usulutan, we took the direction to north and arrived San Miguel. Interesting thing was those street venders were selling lizards (I think they were no alive, so they were for eating). I should have stopped and taken photos of them!

San Miguel is a big city. We were looking for the place to eat but it was too hot to search. So we went
into a shopping mall. It looked like as if we were in the States. The person at the parking entrance spoke English as well. El Salvador is so much more Americanised than Mexico or Guatemala. I am not sure if it is good or bad though.

There were KFC, Burger KIng, Pizza Hut, Wendy's and Mr. Donuts. It was so much like one of American Shopping Malls. There was a food court as well. And it is called "Food Court". But the price was expensive. So we ate at Burger King. My Whapper Duble King Size cost US$5.99! THe same price as in the States. But I had been consuming lots of energy due to heat, I should be forgiven to spend that much.

We looked for a sticker of El Salvador flag, but we could not find it there. So we took off to the border town Santa Rosa de Lima. It took us more than 30mins to get there. The road condition was not that smooth but still Ok. The town is located a little away from the main road, so we missed it and went into the border. Those "guide" came to us and started negociations with us. But we told them we will cross the border tomorrow. One of the guy, Rodolofo spoke English and he told us it would be only US$5 for each of us. But we knew it was bullshit. Anyway, we went back the same way and found a hotel in the town. The hotel is "El Tejano Amigo". It costs US$25 for twin bed room with air-cond and private shower and toilet. It isn't the cheapest option probably, but we took it as it was air-cond, which we needed badly.

Tomorrow we will cross the border in the morning. May be around 7:30am we will get there.

Day 194: 2011年2月3日

Antigua, Guatemala to Armenia, El Salvador
Guatemala: 27,024km to 27,171km = 147km  (Guatemala Total: 26,701km to 27,171km = 470km)
El Salvador: 27,171km to 27,262km = 92km, Today's Total 239km

DSCF3543.jpgDSCF3545.jpg今日はいよいよエルサルバドルへ渡ります。

DSCF3546.jpgDSCF3547.jpgCA2号です。

DSCF3549.jpgDSCF3550.jpgこれらを持ってオフィスに行きます。

Day 194: 3 Feb 2011

Antigua, Guatemala to Armenia, El Salvador
Guatemala: 27,024km to 27,171km = 147km (Guatemala Total: 26,701km to 27,171km = 470km)
El Salvador: 27,171km to 27,262km = 92km, Total 239km

We left Pension Tashiro around 8:20am. Headed to Escuintla, then Cd. Pedro de Alvarado, the border town. We took the route CA2 to east. The road wasn't that bad, until we took a Detour (not sure why, but the road closed) and rode on dirt for a while.

We arrived Cd. Pedro de Alvarado around 11am and early lunch at a Fried Chicken shop. I exchanged remaining Quetzales to US dollars as in El Salvador the currency used is US dollars.  I thought going out of Guatemala should be pretty easy and quick, but it wasn't.

The "guide" came to us, but we said we could do it by ourselves. But he followed us all the way. After we got a stamp of deportation, we went to a photo copier to make photo copies of Passport, the page of the stamp of deportation, driver's license, the title of the vehicle and Permiso of Guatemala. It cost 7Qs.

Then we went to another office to cancel Permiso.  The entire process took more than 30mins. On the window of the office, it clearly states what we need, so we don't need the "guide" at all. So I paid nothing to him even though he followed us all the way.

We rode to El Salvador side. There is no cost for entering El Salvador but the process was so slow. We got through immigration fairly quickly but stuck at Aduna (Custom) for 3hours or more. The worst thing was when I almost got my Permiso, the printer went off line. It took another half hour to bring it back. So when we hit the road again, it was 3:30pm....  We wasted most of our day at the border...  We planned to go to San Miguel today, but it is 260km away from the Guatemalan border. So we gotta change our plan. Probably we have to stop before San Salvador.

After riding few kms, we were stopped at a police check point. They asked for Permiso and I showed it to them. But they said we need to have another one issued by municipal. It would cost $5! I've never heard of it, but policemen insisted. So we went back to the border to get the Municipal Permiso. I thought it was a bullshit, but it was true. We paid $5 at an office near the border and now we were off to go.

So now we were at a town called Armenia, 80km from the border. The hostel costs $10 each. It's clean and air-conditioned. We had tacos for dinner and people in this town are all friendly. I was pissed at the border but I kinda like El Salvador now. Tomorrow we plan to get to near Honduras border.
