Frankfurt to Bornheim, Germany (Das Haus von Friedel)

昨晩は12時前に寝たんだけど、相部屋のおっさん(と言ってもワシよりは若い)のイビキがうるさいし。ようやく眠れたか、と思うと早朝4時に目が覚めてしまった。恐るべし時差ぼけ。

I went to bed before the midnight, but a man in the room was snoring so bad, so I couldn't sleep well. Finally I fell into sleep, but I was awake around 4am. I guess it was because of the jet lag...

目が覚めれば、イビキ地獄！相部屋の他のメンツはこの状況で眠っているのだろうか？

Then I had to fight with the snore... I wondered if other guests at the room were sleeping well.

何回かウトウトしては目が覚めて8時まで。

I couldn't have deep sleep, but I managed to sleep until 8am.

宿の朝飯(この宿はちゃんとした朝飯付き)を食べて、フランクフルトの街を散歩。今日は天気がイイ。

The hostel provides free breakfast. It's a decent breakfast! I went for a walk in the town. It was a fine day and a good day for a walk.

まだ寒いか、と思ったけどヒートテック一枚と長袖Tシャツ一枚で問題無し。

I thought it would be much colder in Germany, but I was fine with 2 layers of the long sleeve T-shirts.

この分なら山とかに行かない限りは路面凍結はなさそうだ。

Unless I go up to the mountains, the road surface wouldn't be frozen. If I stay in low land, it would be fine.

フランクフルトはドイツの金融の中心だけあって近代的なビルが建ち並ぶ。

Frankfurt is the centre of German finance and there are lots of modern high rise buildings around.



金融の中心だし、マイン川の畔にあるからマインハッタンなんて渾名もある!?

As it is by the river Main, it is nicknamed "Mainhattan"!

前にも書いたと思うけどドイツには2つのフランクフルトがあり、こちらはマイン川畔だからフランクフルト・アム・マイン(Frankfurt aM)。もう一つはポーランドとの国境近くの街。

Probably I wrote this before. There are two Frankfurt in Germany. One is Frankfurt am Main, and another is located near the border to Poland.

ユーロのマークが誇らしげ(?)に公園の真ん中にある。ユーロはドイツが支えている、と言っても過言ではないのだ。

A huge sign of Euro was standing in the middle of the park. Euro is sustained by Germany.



フランクフルトの旧市街へ。ここ一角しか無いんだけど、まぁ、それでもそれなりの風情はある。

I walked to "the old town" of Frankfurt. It's only around the square that those historic Frankfurt remains intact, but still it attracts tourists.



ヒツジは2回目だね、ここ。

It was the 2nd visit here for Mr. Sheep.



クマは初めてだ。

The first time for the bear.



ブラブラ歩いて10時には宿に戻る。

I walked back to the hostel by 10am.

ケルン行きのバスは午後2時出発だから昼過ぎまで宿のラウンジにてブログを英語にて。

The bus to Cologne was due at 2pm, so till lunch time, I stayed at the lounge of hostel and updating the blog in English.

長い間英語で書くのをさぼっていたけど、これを期に再開。なるべく続けられるといいのだが、如何せん二ヶ国語で書くのは時間がかかりすぎる。

I stopped writing diaries in English long ago (since I left Germany last time!), but I will do it again. I don't know how long I would keep up with as it really takes long time to write diaries in two languages...

やるとすると日々の記事を短くしないと行けない。

If I want to continue writing in two languages, I have to make a diary short everyday.

昼過ぎに腹が減ったから向かいの中華屋にて食べ放題6.80ユーロを。食べ放題だけどタンパク質と野菜を中心に炭水化物は少なめにお腹いっぱいにならない程度でご馳走様。

I went to have lunch at a Chinese restaurant in front if the hostel. Chinese buffet @ €6.80!
I ate moderately even though it was buffet!

最近は身体の管理に気を使っているのだ。

Nowadays, I'm controlling my diet and working out everyday to stay in a good shape!

1時半過ぎに駅前のバス乗り場へ。

After lunch, I walked to the bus stop nearby the main station.

ドラッグストアにサングラスが安く売っていたので購入。6.30ユーロ！昼飯より安いけどなかなかイイ感じ。

On the way, I found a pair of sunnies @ a drug store. It was €6.30 and wasn't that bad at all! So I bought one.

さて、バスに乗り込み、音楽を聴きながら転寝。

I got on a bus. It was 2 hours and half ride to Cologne. I was listening to musics and fell asleep.

バスは16時半にケルン中央駅に到着。高い尖塔の大聖堂が迎えてくれる。

The bus arrived Cologne main station on time at 4:30pm. The towers of the cathedral welcome me.



フレッドの住むボーンヘイムまでは路面電車にて50分くらい。

By a tram, it took 50 mins to Bornheim.

ケルンの市街を出ると途端に田舎になる。

Once the tram left the city, the view from the window had changed dramatically. A country side of Germany was there.

高速バスで走っている時も思ったんだけど、ドイツは平場が多い。森林や田園や牧場や。人口は九千万人だから日本より国土も広く、平場も多く、人口が少ない、となれば空間にゆとりがあるのは当然。まぁ、その代わり冬は厳しいんだけど。

I was thinking while on the bus. There were lots of forests, farms along the way. The population of Germany is around 90millions, so it's less than that of Japan. The landscape is more flat and larger, so in Germany it's less crowded. But of course, here has more severe winter than Japan.

ボーンヘイム駅で路面電車を降りると小雨が降っていた。あ、あの小雨ではありませんよ！雨の小雨です！(最近このネタ多し)

I got off the tram at Bornheim station. It was raining a little, which reminds me of her "Little Rain".



フレッド家まで歩いて行こう、と歩いて行ったんだけど、やはり5ヶ月も前のことだし、バイクや車で通った風景と違うんだよね。

I thought I could walk to Friedel's place, but it was 5 months ago I was here last time and it looked different from when I was riding and driving.

断念してフレッドに電話して車で迎えに来てもらっちゃいました！

So I gave up and called Friedel to pick me up at the station!

5ヶ月ぶりの再会！フレッドは元気そうでどこも変わってない。

It's been 5 months! He seems to be fine and looks the same as before!

早速家に行き、フレッドの愛犬ジーラに出迎えてもらったら、直ぐにエスペランサに会いに！

Once we got to the house, his dog Zira greeted me! Then I went straight to see Esperanza!

カバーを外すと、5ヶ月前のあの日と同じ状態でエスペランサは待っていてくれた。

I took off the cover and she was there just as I left her here 5 months ago! She was waiting for me!



「ただいま！会いたかったぞ！」、とワシ。

"I'm back! I missed you so so much!"



バッテリーを外してあるからエンジンは始動出来なかったけど、見た目的には錆もういてなさそうだし、いい感じで冬眠出来た。

As the battery was taken out, I could not start the engine. But there is no sign of rust. She seems to be in a good condition!

これもフレッドのお陰だ！

バッテリーも定期的に機械につないで放電と充電を繰り返してくれたのでバッチリ。

He was taking care of the battery as well. Sometimes he connected it with a charger/discharger to keep it in a good shape.

最近、東南アジアから日本に戻ってきてからなんか旅気分がわかなかったのだけれど、こうして愛車と再会すると気分は一転！旅人として、ライダーとして三郎、復活！

Recently, especially after I came back from Southeast Asia, I didn't have much motivation to go on travelling. But I saw Esperanza and it's all coming back to me now!

しばらく居間でフレッドと歓談したあと、夕飯を食べに。

After we had some conversations in the living room, we went out for dinner.

フレッドはお酒を飲むつもりだから、運転はワシ！

As he was going to have done beer, I was the designated driver!

メルセデス・ベンツのMLって言う巨大なSUVをワシが運転！

I drove Merc ML! A big SUV!!

考えてみれば、車を運転するのは以前ここでした以来だな。最近はドイツでドイツ車しか運転していないワシ。左ハンドルで右側通行。うーん、慣れない！

I haven't driven since I was here last time. For last 2 years and half, I have driven German cars in Germany! As it has the steering wheel at the left side, I need to get used to with it (in Australia and Japan, we have the steering wheels at the right side).

アルゼンチン風ステーキハウス「El Loco」にて。ここは去年の7月にフレッドを初めて訪ねた日に連れて行ってもらったレストランだね。

We went to "El Loco" Argentinian steakhouse. Here Friedel took me when I visited him in July.

南米で出会ったライダー2人がアルゼンチン風ステーキハウスで再び再会を祝う！

2 motorcyclists met in South America were having dinner at the Argentinian steakhouse! Excellent choice, Friedel!



今日は2人とも羊肉のステーキ「ロモ・デ・コルデロ」を。

We had "Lomo de Cordero" - Lamb steak.



ヒツジに怒られそうだけど、美味かった！

Mr. Sheep wouldn't be happy but it was yummy!

家に戻るとフレッドの彼女のアンドレアが来ていて3人で歓談。

Back home, Andrea - Friedel's girl friend was there, so we had chat for a while.

まだ、時差ぼけも残ってるし、天気も悪そうなので明日は買い物とかして(ハバイアナのビーサンを実家に置いて来てしまった！)ゆっくり過ごそうかな。

I still have some problem from the jet Lag. The weather seems to be bad tomorrow, so I will spend an easy day.

そうそう、夕方からヴィルフレッドの家でパーティーに招かれてたんだ。

Oh, Wilfried - the friend if Friedel invited me for a party tomorrow evening!

やはり愛車と対面すると俄然と旅気分とライダーとしての心構えが戻りますね。

さて、今週末は楽しんで来は整備や旅の支度をチャキチャキと済ませますよ！

エスペランサを預かってくれたばかりか、依然も今も色々世話を焼いてくれる我が友フレッドには本当に感謝です！
