Bornheim, Germany (Das Haus von Friedel)

昨晩は夜遅くまでフランツ&アンカ宅にてパーティーだったから、今朝は遅めに起床。

I got up late in the morning as I was at Franz & Anka till late.

今日も晴れ！昨日よりも気温は高め。これなら週明けには出発できるかな。

It's a sunny day again! The temp seemed to be higher than yesterday and the snow was melting rapidly! I might be able to resume my trip at the beginning of the week.

朝飯が済んだら、今日は仕事。フレッドがヴィルフレッドに頼まれてボン近くの木材工場から木材を運ぶのだ。

After breakfast, we got a small job from Wilfried. We were assigned to bring some timbers from a factory near Bonn.

ヴィルフレッドは昨日行ったスーパー「エデカ」のマネジャーだそう。マネジャーといっても店長とかではなく、もっと高い役職みたい。

Wilfried is a manager of EDEKA. I wasn't sure what kind of role he is in charge but he seems to be in high position.

ここボーンハイムには全ドイツの野菜・果物などの集積・搬送センターがあるのだ。

Here in Bornheim, there is the distribution centre of veggies and fruits through out entire Germany.

先ずはそこに行って木枠を受け取る。

We picked up a wooden pallet from the centre.



流石に全ドイツのセンターというだけあって、デカイ。

The centre is really huge. No wonder here is the head distribution centre of entire Grrmany.

搬送のためのトラックは50台以上！

There are more than 50 trucks serving for this centre!



ヴィルフレッドはここのマネジャーなのだ。凄いな。

Wilfried is the manager of this centre! Wow.

さぁ、木枠をトレイラーに乗せて出発！

We put the pallet on the trailer and went to the factory.



木材工場までは10キロ足らず。

To the factory, it was less than 10km.

最近ドイツでは林業が儲かっているのだそう。

In Germany, logging business is profitable I heard.

天然ガスや石油の高騰で、マキの需要が高まった、とフレッドは言ってたけど。

Friedel told me that demands for fire woods and the price went up due to the higher prices of oil and gas.

まさか燃料になるマキだけでそんなに儲かるとは思えないから、それ以外の林業でも経営の効率化や輸送の効率化なども儲けに貢献してるんじゃないかな。

Well, I am not convinced that just because of the fire woods higher demands and price logging business is profitable in Fermany.

ドイツでは以前から各州で林業保全のために森林を管理してきた、ということが大きいらしいのだけど。

In Germany, the states have been protecting and maintaining the forests for logging since 1960s.

我が国では林業は70年代をピークに採算が合わなくなって衰退。それまでに「儲かる」種の木(杉など)を人工的に植林したから、ぱっと見には「自然」にみえるけど自然でない山林となってしまった。

In Japan, on the other hand, the logging industry became unprofitable since 1970s. Before then, those "profitable" trees such as cedar were planted.

The forests look "natural" at a glance, but in fact they are artificial.

山林はそのまま放置されて、手入れもされないから、山林そのものもそうだけど、河川や近海にも影響を及ぼしている(山林が変われば水質も変わる)。

As the logging became unprofitable, the forests and mountains have been untouched for a long time now. As they are artificial, they affect the environment in unmeasurable scale. If the forests/mountains change, so as the rivers and nearby seas change.

確か日本の国土の70％は山林だったと思うけど、そんなにあるのに儲からないらしい。

If I recall it correctly, 70% of the land of Japan are forests/mountains. We have such resources, but somehow the industry remains unprofitable...

ドイツなどの成功例を見習ってどうにかならんものかね。

I wonder if we could learn from successful German counter part and make it in better shape.

この辺はワシも勉強不足でなんとも言えんのだけど。

Well, I do not have enough knowledge to make further comment...

まぁ、我々はこの工場に何をしに来たか、というと、エデカの集積・搬送センターで使っているパレットの補修や為の木材を取りに来たのだ。

Well, we came to the timber factory to pick up some timbers for repairing those pallets used in the distribution centre.



こういうパレットね。

木材がぎっしり詰まった木枠をトレーラーの上に載せる。

We put 2 pallets full of timbers on the trailer.





木材は2つの木枠にいっぱい。重量は1t！

Those pallets weigh 1 ton!



これはトレーラーの積載容量を越えてしまっている！

「まぁ、大丈夫だよ」、とフレッド。ドイツ人も意外にいい加減なんだな。

Actually it was more than max carrying capacity of the trailler. But Friedel said "No problem!" I though Germans would follow the rule more stricktly.

流石に1tの木材を載せるとタイヤがかなり潰れた。

The tyres did not have enough air pressure to withstand the weight, so we went to a petrol station nearby to inflate the ryres.

近くのガソリンスタンドで空気圧を増して集積・搬送センターまで。

これで一仕事終わったわけなんだけど、フレッドが中を案内してくれた。

ドイツ各地に発送される野菜・果物が整然と置かれている。



野菜は気温2℃に保たれたエリアに、バナナは気温10℃に保たれたエリアに保管されていたり。

まあ、普段見れないスーパーマーケットの内部を見れてよかった。

家に戻ると、かなり雪は溶けたな。明後日月曜日に出発しようかな。



諸処の事情でポーランド行きはやめにしたし。

なんか旅の再開をしに来たのに、こうして一週間以上も腰を据えてしまうと出発が億劫になってしまいますね。でも、腰を上げないと。
