Day 187: 2010年1月27日

今日は朝早く目が覚めてしまいましたが、7時過ぎまでゴロゴロしてました。
当初は国境沿いの町シウダー・クアウテモック(Ciudad Cuauhtemoc)までのつもりだったのですが、ヒデさんと相談した結果今日国境を越えてしまうことにしました。
でもなんだか天気悪いですねぇ。

朝9時を目途に出発の準備をします。イジョに「いつでも来て良いよ」って言われてちょっとジーンと来ちゃいましたね。
クラさん、カザフにも別れを告げてイザ出発です。

今回は190号を東に行きます。結構トペ（スピードを落とさせるためのデコボコ）が多く、思ったより距離が稼げません。でもワインディングが多いので爽快にバイクを飛ばして楽しめたりもします。
途中軍隊の検問で停められて、サイドスタンドを出したらカンジキを留めてあるネジが１本紛失してます。カサカサ出るときは有ったはずなんだがな。
まぁ、代えのネジが有るはずなので後で取り付けましょう。

コミタン（Comitan）という町で給油休憩。ペメックスでの給油もこれが最後ですね。国境の町シウダー・クアウテモックには1時前に到着しました。先ずはペルミソ（一時車両輸入許可証）をキャンセルしなければなりません。

「Car Permission」と看板が出てたので入ったらイミグレ（出入国管理）でした。とりあえず出国手続きをし（ツーリストカードとレシートを渡して、パスポートに出国スタンプを押してもらう）、何処でペルミソをキャンセル出来るか聞いてみました。
隣のオフィスだとのこと。ドアを開けてみると、なんとスッゴイ行列!!「ここでペルミソをキャンセルできるのか？」と並んでる人に聞いたら、誰も待っていない窓口だよと教えてくれました。
ペルミソのキャンセルはペルミソの書類を差し出し、係りの人とバイクの車体番号とペルミソに記載されている番号があってるか確認し、ステッカーを剥がして、最後にキャンセル証明書を貰って終わりです。
出国手続きとペルミソのキャンセルで15分くらいで終了。

お腹が空いたので露店でトルタとジュースを買い、立ちながらの昼飯。メキシコ・ペソのコインが多少余ってるので、売店でアイスなんかを買って消費。

さぁて、ついにメキシコを後にしますよ！約4ヶ月間いろいろありましたけど、楽しかったよ、メキシコ。今度はいつ戻ってこれるだろうか?

シウダー・クアウテモックから4キロくらい走るとグアテマラ領に入ります。ラ・メシージャ（La Mesilla)と言う町です。なんだかゴミゴミしている町ですね。
境界線を越えてすぐ、バイクを消毒させられました。12ケツアールです。グアテマラの通過ケツアール(Q)はまだ持ち合わせてないので、ちょうどヤミ両替のおっちゃんが来たので両替。
公定のレートでは1Qは1.5ペソなんですが、850ペソを510Qに…、と言い張ります。せめて550Qくれよと交渉しましたが、駄目でした。

それからイミグレに行き入国手続きを済ませ（パスポートを提出しスタンプを貰うだけ。無料です。）、バイクのペルミソを取得します。
イミグレのおっちゃんに「アンティグアまでどの位かかるか」と聞いたら、親切に答えてくれました。
ペルミソはイミグレの隣のオフィスで発行してくれます。必要な書類は、バイクの登録証、国際免許書、メキシコのペルミソキャンセル証明書。
オフィスのおっちゃんも陽気で、警備の人も話しかけたら人懐っこいんですね。グアテマラ人の印象良し！
料金はペルミソ40Qに税金15Q。併設の銀行で支払って終了！全額67Qで済みました。
1時半過ぎに国境を越えて2時には終了。30分足らずでした。
ペルミソステッカーをバイクに貼って出発です！

CA1号を東南に走るんですが、トペが多いです。あ、グアテマラではトペじゃなくて違う名前で呼んでます。何って言うんでしたっけ？
まぁ、トペでも何でも名前はいいんですが、これのせいで距離が稼げません。でもワインディングは楽しめます。ウエウエテナンゴ（Huehuetenango）を過ぎたあたりからトペは少なくなり、サンクリストバル・トトニカパン（San Cristobal Totonicapan)1号線にから入ると片側2車線の高速道路になります。

時間は4時半ごろ。さてここまで来たらアンティグアまで行ってしまおうと。
1号線を110キロ巡航で飛ばします。高速コーナーありで楽しく走ってましたが、途中崖崩れが多く、片側車線閉鎖のため飛ばせない区間が多く、ここでも時間がかかります。
6時に日が暮れて、チマルテナンゴ（Chimaltenango)、パラモス（Paramos)に着いたころには真っ暗です。しかしアンティグアはもう目と鼻の先。標識に従って進みます。
山道を登っていくと、周りは畑で真っ暗ですが、舗装の新しい道にでました。
しかし、「流石古都に通じる道だなぁ」、なんて思って走っていたら、いきなり未舗装に。しかもコルゲーションがけっこうキツイ！
これは道を間違えたな、と思いUターンをかますも、道際の砂たまりに前輪が取られてポテゴケ…。あたりは真っ暗。こりゃ、山賊が出てもおかしくないぞ!

気合をいれて起こそうと試みますが、GS重い。車が来たので手を振って停めようとしましたが、無視…。
トップケースと防水バッグを取り外し、再度挑戦。今度は途中まで持ち上げられましたが、足場が悪くこれ以上トラクションがかけられず、断念。
こうなったらパニアの中身を出すしかないな、と中身を出していたら、車が来ました。今度はちゃんと停まってくれました。
1・2の3で持ち上げて、荷物を積みなおします。
彼らはドイツ人で旅をしているそうです。目的地もアンティグアなので一緒に行くことに。

再度Uターンをし出発しようとしたら、パトカーが来ました。「君たち何処へいくのか？」と聞いてきたので「アンティグア」と答えたら、「この先は山で危険だから、引き返すように」と。
やっぱり、山賊でるんや、ここ。でも警察が違うルートでアンティグアまで先導してくれることに。
結局アンティグアに到着したのは8時過ぎ。それからウメザワさんが泊まっているペンション田代を探すのにちょっと手間取りました。

ペンション田代はきれいな宿です。ドミトリー45Q（2泊すると40Q)で個室が50Qです。いろいろ物があるので個室にしました。
マックで遅い夕飯を食べて、ウメザワさんと近況報告をし合い夜も深けてしまいました。明日はちょっとゆっくり市内観光でもし、ティカルへは明後日くらいに行きますかね。
今日は疲れました!!

Well, it was hard day. I tell you now why....

I got up after 7am and  geared up. I was planning o get to Ciudad Cuauhtemoc, the border town (Mexican side) today, but after discussing with Hide, Idecided to cross the border. It was overcast and a little cold, which was better for riding.

Ijo told methat I can come back here and am welcome antime. I was really touched. I will see you again Ijo! I said good-bye to El Chino and Kra, and left Casa Kasa after 9am.

Last time with Claydy we went on the route 190 West ward, but ihis time I tok East ward solo...
There were lots of topes (humps) on the way, so I could not go faster. But the windings were great.  enjoyed going throuh those windings in high speed.   

I was stopped at a military check point. When I put down the side stand, I found one of the bolts holding wide step was missing. I was sure thatit was there when I left Casa Kasa... Anyway I have spare bolts, so I will put it later.

I had a little rest for refuelling at the town of Comitan. It would be the last refuel at Pemex. I am gonna miss Pemex.

At Ciudad CUauhtemoc, I arrived around 1pm. I needed to cancel "Permiso" (the temporary vehiecle importation  permit) before crossing border. I found the sign saying "Car Permission" and went into the office. But it was the imigration. The officer took my tourist card and stamed the deportation. He told me that I can cancel Permiso at next building. 

All I needed to do were, presenting the document of permiso and passport and  the officer checked VIN of my GS against the document and when confirmed they matched, he peeled off the permiso sticker from the windscreen. Back to the office, he issued the certificate of cancellation of permiso, and all done!
Everything ws done in 15mins with no cost.

I bought a torta and a bottle of refresco for MX$20. As I stll had Mexican cins, I boght a snack bar and ice cream.
 
Now I will leave Mexico, where I stayed around 4 months. Lots of things happened and I certainly had great time here. Not sure when I will come back, but I shall return one day. Muchas gracias para todos, Mexico! Hasta la vista!!

To the border of Guatemalan side I needed to ride for 4kms. Across the border, here is the town of  La Mesilla. As soon as corossing the border, one of the guy asked me to park the bike for quarantine. He spreyed the antisepic solution o my GS and at the office he asked for 12 Quetzales. As I did not have any Quetzal,  he calle one of the money exchanger. I wanted to exchange MX$850. The official rate on the day was around 1Q = MX$1.5. But his rate was 1Q = MX$1.66, which wil be 510Q. I asked for 550Q but he was tough. As I needed to have Qs, I reluctantly exchaned MX$850 to 510Qs...
 
Then I went to the imigration. There were 2 people before me but the process was pretty smooth and the staffs wer all friendly. I asked how many hours would take to Antigua, and he told me it would take 7 - 8 hours! The imigration cost nothing.

Then I went to the next office for Permiso. The documents I needed to present were 1. Passport, 2. The cerificate of vehiecle (issued in Japan), 3. the certificate of cancellation of Mexican permiso, and 4. International driver's license. The cost was 55Qs (40Qs for permiso and 15Qs for tax?). Paying the fee at the bank next to te office and all done! All staffs were friendly and pretty quick with teir jobs. All process was done withn 30mins. No hussle, no trouble, nor no bad feeling. I had a god impression on Guatemala.

Now I put the sticker of permiso on the windscreen and go!!! It was around 2pm when I left the border.

I was going South east on the route CA1. But there were many many topes on the way ad it took long time to go a distance. But windings were excellent! After pssing Huehuetenango, there were few topes and after San Cristobal Totonicapan, CA1 merged to the route 1. It has 2 lanes each side and very smooth road. Now I can go faster!! There were high speed corner and I was cruising at 110km/h.

But soon, I had to slow down. Therewere ots of landslide and one side of te road was closed at many sections.

There was no any town for a while. I should have stayed at a motel but I pushed to get to Antigua.
The sun set around 6pm and by the time I got to Chimaltenango and Paramos, it was completely dark. But I was really near Antigua. I followed the sign to Antigua. 

After passing Paramos, I entered the mountains, but the road was new and very smooth. But it became unpaved with bad corrugation! This road should not be leading to Anigua, I thought and took a U-turn. But the road side was loosen and I tipped ver my GS! There was no light and no much traffic on the road! It looked like bandits would apear anytime. 

Luckily there was a car coming, I waved at the car to stop. But the car went pass...
I tried to lift up my GS, but I couldn'T. So I took off som of the gears and tried again. I could lift up half way but the ground was loosen and I could not hold the traction...

When I was off-loading the stuff from panniers, another car came. I could stop the car and he was a German traveller. He helped me to get up my GS! He was heading to Antigua as well, so we decided ti go together.

Just about we were going, a police car came along and stopped us. The officer asked us "Where are you guys going?". We replied "Antigua". The officer said "The mountains are really dangerous in the night! We will lead you guys to Antigua, so you have to return to Paramos." 
How lucky I was. Now I jus follow the police car to Antigua.

It was afer 8pm when I arrived Antigua. It took a while to find Pension Tashro where my friend Akira staying.  
The pension is quite clean and cost 45Qs for dorm and 50Qs for single. I took the single room. With Akira I talked till late (talking about what happened since we left Pension Amigo in Mexico City).  I got so tired today.
