今日は5時に起きて5時50分の電車でロンドンまで。ギリギリで電車に乗ることが出来ました。

I got up at 5am(!) and caught 5:50am train to London Waterloo. I nearly missed the train!

7時にカンとジェームスが滞在しているホテルに到着。迎えのバスを待ちます。バスは時間通り7時15分に到着。電車に乗り遅れていたら、間に合わないところでした。バスで長距離バス乗り場まで。

I got to the hotel where Kwun and James staying at 7am. We waited at the robby for a pickup bus. The bus came to pick up up at 7:15am on time. If I missed the train, I would have missed the bus too. It was close.

今日は昨日とは違って紅一点のアンバーが参加。バナナを向けられて怖がるアンバー。

Today, Amber - the friend of Kwun - joined us. She pretended to be scared of me holding a banana like a pistol.  Or was she really scared??

















長距離バスに乗り換えて、一路ストーンヘンジへ。

We hopped on a tour bus to Stonehenge.

この間来ましたが、遠めで見ただけなので、今日はしっかり見ましょう!! しかし、生憎の雨・・・。

I went there a few days ago, but I saw it from outside of the fence. So today I was going to see it close up. ut the weather was bad...

















なにやら色々なオブジェがストーン・サークルの周りに。バケツとか、なんなんだ??　（後でガイドに訊いたら、フランスのツアー会社の企画で夜ライトアップするそうです。しかしオブジェがあるために雰囲気が台無しです!!）

There were some objects surrounding Stonehenge. We did not know what they were. Some mortar look-a-like thingies with buckets were placed between footpath and Stonehenge, blocking our views.... Later we asked the guide and he said a French tour operator is doing a light up tour, and they light up the "mortar" look-a-like thingies. How National Trust allow the operator doing this kind of thing??

ストーンヘンジは思ったよりも小さい、とかなりの人が思うそうです。ワシもそう思いました。しかし、一つ一つの石は大きいく、これを200キロも離れた石切り場から運ぶのは大変だったでしょう。

I heard from some people that Stonehende is actually smaller than many people imagine, and I thought so too. But still it would have been hard work tobring those stones for 200km.


















未だにストーンヘンジが建てられた理由は解明されてません。日時計、カレンダー、宗教儀式の場、権力者の象徴、などなどいろんな説がありますが、どうなんでしょうねぇ。

There is no definite theory of how / why Stonehenge was built. A sundial, a calendar, a religious celemonial palce, a ruler's showing off monument etc, there are lots of theories made. It is the centuries long mystery. 

まぁ、謎のままの方がロマンがあっていいですね。

Well, something is better to remain as a mystery.

バスに乗り込み、次はバース（Bath)まで。ここはローマ時代に一大浴場が築かれた場所。イギリス唯一の天然温泉です。

We hopped on the bus and it took us to Bath. Here a large scale public bath was built during Roman occupation. It is said "the only" hot spring in England.

バース・アビー（Bath Abbey）はなかなかの構え。

早速ローマの浴場へ。浴場としては現在機能してませんが、ローマ時代の遺物を展示したりと、博物館になっています。

We visited Roman Bath first. Now it is a museum later than public bath, but they display those artifacts from Roman period. 

















浴場はプールになっていて、ローマ時代はもちろん混浴。

浴場のほかにサウナ施設もあったりと流石風呂好きローマ人、「寒いブリタニアを快適に過ごすのには風呂だ!」とばかりに大仕掛けの施設だったんですね。ちなみに都市名「バース（Bath)」は風呂って言う意味です。南米にも温泉地でバニョス（Banos）という地名がありましたね。

There were not only a bath but a huge sauna facility. Romans, they really loved bathing and it was probably the best way to forget the chilly British winter for a moment. It's interesting for me that there were a few cities / towns named "Banos" in Latin America. Same meaning as "Bath".

それからアビーの中を見学。ナント大聖堂と似ていて、造りが簡素なようで美しい。ラテン・アメリカなどの教会よりもワシはこの方が好きですね。

They with Amber, I visited Abbey. Inside of Abbey was similar to that of Nantes Cathedral, and I like this style. It's simple but solemn.






















パイプ・オルガンもなかなかのもの。

The pipeorgan was very impresive too.


















それからクレセント（Cresent）まで歩いて行きました。途中「ゲイ・ストリート(Gay Street）」を発見。

Rejoined with Kwun and James, we all walked to the Royal Cresent. On the way, we found "Gay street".























これがバース名物クレセント。

This is the Royal Cresent - one of Bath's landmark.


















市場に立ち寄ったら、エリザベス2世女王がいたので記念撮影。

There was the Queen in the market!























バース、なかなかキレイな街ですね。天気さえ良ければもっと散策したいのですが。まぁ、バスの時間もありましたので、切り上げて、バスに乗り込みロンドンまで爆睡。

Bath was really pretty city. If it was beter weather, it would be much better. On the way back to London, I slept on the bus almost all the way.

チャイナタウンで夕飯。

We had dinner in Chinaown.

















久しぶりに食べるチャイニーズBBQ。シドニーで食べて以来ですので2年以上ぶり。が、しかしイマイチでした・・・。

It was my first Chinese BBQ since I left Australia, but it was not that good...

















10時半頃までパブで飲んで、今日お世話になるチャッヴィーの家に着いたのは12時!!　いやぁー疲れました。

We had a drink till 10:30pm and when I got to Chavvi's place it was midnight!!
