Day8: 2010年8月1日

Marble Canyon to Chetwynd

今日は6時半に起きて準備。朝起きてみると灰が積もってます。何だろう？
また荷物詰め替えをしてたら、出発が8時半過ぎになってしまいました。HorstとAnne-Maryに別れを告げ出発。

30キロくらい走ると99号は終わり97号に入ります。何故だかずーっと煙いです。乾燥してるので山火事の危険度がたかいので恐らく山火事でしょう。灰が積もっていたのはそのせいでしょうか。
Clinton, 70 Mile Houseを過ぎ100 Mile Housrにて早めの昼飯。カナダのファーストフードチェーン、A&Wで食べました。パニアを降ろしてセンタースタンドを立てオイルのチェック。オイルは減ってないですね。

12時過ぎに100 Mile Houseを出てWilliams Lakeへ。給油を済ませてQuesnelへ。燃費はリッターあたり20キロです。

QuesnelのTim Hortonでコーヒーブレイク。隣りに座ったカップルがバイク乗りだったのでしばし歓談。KatherineとKeethにPrince George以降Yukonまで西ルートか東ルートかどっちがいいかアドバイスをもらいました。西の方が見所ありますが、動物に当たる可能性が高いとのこと。行きは東ルートで帰りは西ルートにします。

ここまでずーっと煙いです。どうやら大規模の山火事のせいだそうです。

Prince Georgeまでの道で鹿2頭目撃。リスも道路を横切ったりといよいよカナダの奥地に入ってきた感じですね。

Prince Georgeを過ぎ更に北上。ちょっと雲行きが怪しいかな。何か黒い動物が路肩にいるなと思ったら小熊でした！野生の熊見るの初めてです！
5時を過ぎたので、Beaver Lakeでキャンプとも思ったのですが、まだ日があるので先に進みます。これが裏目に。

McLeod辺りから雨がチラホラ。本降りにはならずに助かりましたが、キャンプ場を見逃したのかMackenzieとの分岐点まで来てしまいました。もう7時前です。
ガソリンスタンドのおばちゃんにキャンプ場はあと30日分くらい先に有ると聞いて、一安心。
早めにキャンプ場に着かないと日が暮れてしまうので急ぎ脚で。キャンプ場有ったんですが雨がチラホラなのでChetwyndまで脚を伸ばしました。8時半前にようやくキャンプ場に到着。2時間前まで雨が降っていたそうです。料金は15ドルと1.8ドルの税金。シャワーも浴びれるのでよし。インスタントラーメンを食べ、シャワーを浴びて後は日記を付けて寝るだけです。
明日はFort Nelsonを目指します。550キロくらい先です。
 

Day8: 1Aug10

I woke up at 6:30am and got prepared. I tried to arrange the luggages again and ended up leaving there just after 8:30am. Said Good-bye to Horst and Anne-Mary. Oh, not sure why, ash was on top of my tent and bike.

Around 30km later, route 99 ends there and merges to route 97. Passing Clinton and 70 Mile House, I stopped at 100 Mile House and had lunch at A&W, the Canadian fast food chain.
Check the engine oil level there. The oil level is still full. Good!

At Williams Lake, filled Gas. The petrol consumption is 20km/liter.

I had afternoon coffee break at Tim Horton, Quesnel. A couple next table also ride motorcycles and we had a chat while. I ask the conditions of route 97 and route 16. I can take either to Whitehorse but not sure which route to take. Route 16 has better views but more chances to hit wild animals. Anyway I decided to take 97 on the way up and 16 on the way coming back.

I saw two deers and squall on the road.

Around Prince George, it got cloudy and sprinkled a bit. On the side of the road, I saw a black bear! It was a cub! My first sight of bear ever!

I was thinking to camp at Beaver Lake. It was after 5pm but still blight, so I took a few photos of the lake and went ahead. This was a mistake.

I ended up camping near Chetwynd. More than 200km away from Beaver Lake. I missed another camping site nearby Beaver Lake and there were a few site in between but it was sprinkling...
I arrived at the camping site just before 8:30pm. What a long day!
Had shower and writing diary now. Will go to sleep soon. Tomorrow I'm heading to Fort Nelson, around 550km away from here.

Day7: 2010年7月31日

Vancouver to Marble Canyon

今日はバンクーバーを旅立つ日。昨晩荷物がキッカリと収まらなかったので、早目に起きて準備。まだまだ改善の余地は有りますが、何とか形は作れました。Yoshiさんも準備が整ったので、ショウタたセイタに見送られて出発。ワシは熊スプレーと防水袋が欲しかったので、キャンプ屋へ。10時半くらいに宿を出たのですが、Downtown
を抜け出したのは11時半過ぎになってしまいました。

オリンピックの会場となったWhislerまでとりあえずはしります。ここルート99号はすっごく景色がイイです。走ってると中々写真が撮れないので皆さんにお見せ出来ずに残念です。
途中にYoshiさんが休憩で停まってたので再会。またこの先で会う気がします。

そうそう、たまに一車線になるので合流渋滞が多かったですね。週末なので車も多いですからね。

Whislerで遅めの昼食。適当な店が見当たらなかったのでマックにて。これなら手前のSquamishで食べれば良かったです。もっとチョイスが有りました。

それからLillooetという街まで走ります。Pembertonから94キロ給油がありません。
ワインディングを楽しみ、風景を楽しみ走ります。風景は最高ですが、ルート99号、舗装状態悪いです。オーストラリアの方がイイくらいです。あと、次の街まで何キロの方が表示がなかなか無いのでちょっと戸惑います。ここら辺は暑いです。温度計は36度となってます。

Lillooetにて水とミューズリーバーを買って後はキャンプ場を探すだけです。野宿が出来そうなところは99号上にはなさそうなので、ミシュラン地図に載っているキャンプ場マークが頼りです。でもタダじゃ無いんだろうなぁ。

Pavillionを過ぎた辺り、Marble Canyon Parkで5時過ぎたのでキャンプすることに。16ドル払わなきゃなんですが、10ドルと50ドルしか無いので10ドルだけいれました。

ここは渓谷になっていて、湖のホトリにキャンプ場があります。山が迫っていて景色イイです。

隣のHorstとAnne-Maryに何かとお世話になりました。挽いてあるコーヒー豆を買ったつもりがおもいっきりマメだったんで、挽いてあるのと交換してもらいました。例の如くインスタントラーメンの晩飯を済まして後は寝るだけです。
明日はPrince Georgeを越えたくらいのところを目指します。
 

Day7: 31Jul2010

Today is the day of days, starting my around the world trip by the motorcycle. Woke up early to sort the luggages in better manner. Took me while to reshape all the stuffs but it's better form now. But I need to make it better along the way.
Yoshi also got ready, so we left the hostel at 10:30am. Shota and Seita saw us off.

I needed to go to a camping store to get a bear spray and dry sacks, so said good-bye to Yoshi at Burrard street. 

I managed to get out from Downtown after 11:30am. Now I can head to Whisler, the home of 2010 winter Olympics game.

The view on route 99 is awesome. 
There were traffic jams where two lanes marge one lane.

I found Yoshi resting at a roadside parking. Chat about 5 mins and I headed to Whisler. I'm sure we will see each other again.

Arrived Whisler around 1:30pm. Had lunch at McDonalds as there was no other choice. I should have had lunch at Squamish!

From Whisler to Lilloet, I did not make any tsp. Route 99 has lots of windings and up n down, and great scenery, I like it! But the road condition isn't good. Aussie road is better than here. Also there is no much sign indicating how far to next town, which is not nice. It got hotter after Whisler. The thermometer on the bike was showing 36 degrees.

Bought a bottle of water and cereal bars at Lillooet, and now need to find a camping ground. I cannot see any space for bush camping along route 99. I gotta rely on Michelin map for a camping ground.

Marble Canyon Park near Pavillion is my tent site today.
I have to pay CAD16. No tap water, no shower but it is on lakeside and mountains are just there. A nice view.

Horst and Anne-Mary camping next to me were nice to me. I bough a bag of coffee beans, which I thought grounded one. They exchange it to grounded coffee beans, so now I can enjoy cuppa. Had an instant noodle as my dinner as usual in camping. Now I gotta go to bed.

Day6: 2010年7月30日

今日は朝から日通さんが宿まで迎えに来ました。Yoshiさんは通関するのに必要な書類を取りに一回日通にいかなきゃならないので、一緒にノース・バンクーバーのICBCまで車に乗っていきました。

9時半ごろに出発して着いたのが10時過ぎ。手続きは簡単です。
バイクの登録書（陸運局で発行した車検の英訳版みたいなの）にパスポートと国際免許書、あと日通さんからもらった書類でOK。
ビジターの場合15日単位で加入が出来てCAD75。カナダとアメリカで保険が適応されます。ワシは6週間分加入してCAD462!高いけどこれに加入しないとカナダで走れないですし、事故したとき大変ですからね。あ、対人と対物のみなので、自損したら保険降りないですけどね。もちろんお金を払えば自損も保険適応できますが高いです。

保険加入が終わったら日通へ。
11時半ごろに着きまして、いよいよGSと面会！
税関が半分検査で箱開けたので、姿が見えます。見た目は無事です！

梱包を自分で開梱しようとしたんですけど、無理です。
日通の方に頼んで開けてもらいました。自分でやったら何時間もかかったろうなぁ。

いよいよGSがその雄姿をカナダの青空の下に現しました！
まずはミラーを取り付けて、バッテリーの端子をつけて、エンジンをかけます。ぶるるるるるん、一発です。さすがMy GS！

荷物を入れ替えたりして、日通を後にしたのは12時過ぎ。ガソリンスタンドはすぐ裏手にあるので、ガソリンが少なくても安心です。

John Valk BMWに行き頼んでおいた部品を買います。ブレーキレバー、クラッチレバー、前後ブレーキパッド、オイルフィルター、オイルフィルターレンチ、オイル1リッターでCAD750！高いけどこれで安心して旅を続けられます。

それからカナダ、ブリティッシュ・コロンビア州（BC)のJAFにあたるBCAAで地図をもらい、Risaちゃんとお茶するのでGranville Islandまでいきました。インドカレーを昼飯にし、Risaちゃんからブラウニーをいただきました、ありがとー。

後は宿に戻って荷物の整理。結構入らないものですね。今のところパソコンを入れるスペースが無いので、テントはリアシートにネットでくくりつけるしかなさそうです。

Yoshiさんも無事に通関しバイクを受け取ることができたので、2人でスーパーまで走らせて明日以降の食材を買い込みました。

さてと、今日はこれからお風呂に入って、洗濯して寝ます。

明日からWitehorseまで5日間くらいキャンプする予定なので、しばらく更新が出来ないと思います。Whitehorseから1週間カヌーで川下りするので、Whitehorseでネットにつながらなければ長い間更新できませんね。なので更新が無くても心配はいりませんよ！

Day6, 30JUL2010

 

This morning they guys from the shipping company picked me up at the hostel.
Yoshi, the DR650 guy, came together with us as he needs to pickup a document at the shipping company.

First we went to ICBC North Vancouver to join Autoplan isurance.
It costs CAD77 for 15days. It's gona cover Canada and the USA, so I joined for 60days, which costs CAD462!
It is lots of money but without this I cannot ride in Canda and the States.

Then we went to the shiping company and picked up my bike.
The container was half broken by cusom but still required a big job to open it up.
I asked the guys at the shipping company to open it.
I wasn't sure if I paid for it but they were happy to do it for me.
It took half hour to open the contaner and finally my GS is under Canadian sunshine!

Put on mirrirs and connected the battery, I started up my GS, yes, with one push her engine hawls!

Now I gotta fill petrol. Luckily the gas station is just behind the company.
It is first time for me to ride on rightside of the road. I was narvus before I actually rode the bike, but it wasn't that hard.

I went to John Valk BMW to pick up parts I ordered, a brake lever, a clutch lever, front and rear brake pads, an oil filter, an oil filter wrench, 1 litre engine oil.
Total they cost me CAD750! But with these parts I can feel more secure t ride arond the continent.

THen went to BCAA (Automotive Accociation) to get a free map of BC and Yukon.

Risa asked me to come to Granville Island for a cuppa, so I rode there. With the bike, it is so mch easier to go arond Vancouver!    
I had Indian curry for lunch and she gave me a nice brownie, thanks Risa. We looked around the shops for a while and she has to go to see other friends.

Went back to the hostel to sort out the luggages. It was hard to put everything in in nice order. I do not have enough space to put my laptop ant the moment,so tomorrow morning I have to work it out.
Probably I have to carry a backpack.

Yoshi could pick up his DR650 successfully We rode to a Supermarket to get foods for tmorrow onward.
I will be camping on the way to Whitehorse. So I might not be able to update my log for a while. SO PLEASE DO NOT WORRY!

Day5:  2010年7月29日

今日はバイク通関の日。一気に受け取りまでする段取りなんですけど、うまくいくのかな？
通関の予約は3時半なので遅れたりすると保険の加入とかで時間内にできないよな。

朝10時半ごろにC&N Backpackersをチェックアウト。住み心地はよかったんだけど、駐車場が無いからね。
Sky Trainでダウンタウンにいき、バスに乗り換えてJerico Beachのユースホステルへ。

チェックインしてホステル内を見て回っていたら、キッチンに日本人2人発見。ショウタとセイタ。話をしてたら、もう一人日本人ライダーがここに滞在中とのこと。しかも名前はYoshiさん。C&Nで入れ違いになった人だ！

Yoshiさんは外でタバコを吸っていたので、外に出て挨拶。なんとDR650に乗ってるとのこと。しかも日通でバイクを運んだとのこと！かぶるなぁ。Yoshiさんは明日通関予定なので、ワシの今日のプロセスに興味津々。

ライダー同士いろいろな話に盛り上がりました。

当初の予定では日通の菅Nさんは2時45分くらいに迎えに来ていただけるとのことだったんですが、渋滞で結局きたのが3時40分過ぎ。Downtownまでいって通関は出来たのですが、ICBCにまで行く時間はないので明日の朝っていうことになりました。

そのまま宿まで送ってもらって今これを書いてます。

Day5: 29Jul2010

Today I supposed to receive my bike - GS, but due to time constraint, I could only get her through custom.

I checked out from C&N Backpackers this morning, and moved to HI-Vancouver Jerico Beach as it has parking space. 

The staff of the shipping company was to pick me up around 2:45pm as the appointment at Custom was 3:30pm. But he came to pick me up around 3:45pm! He said there was a trafic jam....

We managed to get to Custom around 4pm and got the documentation procesed. 
Now my bike is almost ready for pick up, but need to join an Autoplan (Insurance) to ride in Canada.
The insurance company, ICBC, office is closed at 4:30pm and it is located in North Vancouver, we gave up going there today.
He will come to pick me up around 8:30am tomorrow and I should be able to pick up my bike in the morning tomorrow.

Day 5  2010年7月28日

今日はスタンレーパークに行きました。ここはバンクーバーの観光名所の一つですね。パークの真ん中あたりにあるビーバーレイクが目に留まって、是非行きたくなりました。

 




パークへはSky TrainでDowntownへ行き、それから19番のバスで行きます。 バスを降りたら先ずはビーバーレイクへ。 横にきれいな小川が流れる小道を行くとビーバーレイクが見えてきます。ビーバーレイクには残念ながらビーバーの姿はありません。一面蓮のような植物が水面を覆っています。鴨やサギのデカイやつとかいました。都会からほんの少し（徒歩圏内です）きたらもうこんな自然があるんですね。やるなーバンクーバー。

次は海岸線を目指して歩きます。Lions Gate　Bridgeが見えるところで昼食。朝中華系スーパーのT&Tでかった5ドルのチャーシュー丼。安くてうまくてボリュームあるわで最高ですね、T&T。ちなみに一昨日と昨日の夕食もT&Tで2つ入り3.5ドルで買った中華粽をひとつずつ食べたんですよ。こういうところで節約しないとね。

そうそう、今日は一日乗り放題券9ドルを買いました。Lynn Valley Parkの吊橋（Suspension Bridge)も見たかったので乗り放題券のほうが安くつくんですね。

昼飯を食べたら今度はトーテム・ポールを見に。広場に7本のトーテムが建ててあります。よくテーマパークとかに偽物がありますけど、これは本物です。ワシはネイティブ・アメリカンのデザインが好きですね
日本の縄文時代のデザインにも通じる躍動的なデザインが。古代中国文明の文物も躍動感があっていいですよね。マヤとかアステカ、インカまでなんか繋がっているんじゃないかって気にさせられます。

それからNine Oclock Cannonを見て、バス停に戻ろうと歩いてたら、アザラシが沖の浅瀬に寝転っていました。ちょっと遠くてわかりにくかったんですが、何頭か周りを泳いでいるのが見えました。遠すぎて写真には収められなかったんですがね。

バスでダウンタウンまで出て、Seabusでノース・バンクーバーへ。ロンズデールのバスターミナルから229に乗ってLynn Valleyへ。20分くらいですかね。吊橋はCapilanoが有名なんですが、ボッタクリ値を払わされますし、Lynnの方は多少短いのですが無料です。
公園内にはウォーキングトレイルがいろいろあってかなり楽しめそうです。残念ながらスタンレーで歩き疲れていたワシは吊橋を渡って満足。下に渓流が流れていて崖があるんですけど、若者が崖から飛び込んでました。かなりの高さだよ。あれは絶対に痛いだろうなぁ。

バスで来た道を戻ってSeabusでWaterfrontまで。それからSky Trainに乗ってChinatownで降りてT&Tで買い物。また粽を買いました。今度は2つ入りで2.5ドル。今夜と明日の朝食べよう。

明日はJerico Beachのユースホステルに移ります。少し遠いですが駐車場があるので。
無事に通関などの手続きが済みますように。そしてバイクが無傷でエンジンがすぐにかかりますように皆さんも祈ってくださいね！


Day 4.  28Jul2010

I went to Staley Park and Lynn Valley Park today.
As going to man places and Lynn Valley is lacated in North Vancouver, Zone 2, I bought a Day pass costs CAD9.00.

Stanley Park is lacated East side of Vancouver, 20 mins walk from Downtown.Of course I caught a bus from Downtown as I gotta walk a lot today,

I was interested in seeing Beaver Lake. I'm sure there isn't any beaver left there, but the name attracted me a lot. So once I got off from the bus, I walked straight t the lake. Walking down a wlking track, a clean little creek running beside, I saw Beaver Lake. It is covered by Lotus like plants all over. There were ducks and a big bird (I don't knw the name). It is amazing to see such nature kept just next to a bigcity like Vancouver.  

After that, I went to Sea wall. I found a nice spot veiwing Lions Gate Bridge and had lunch there. I bought a Chinese takeaway fom Chinese Supermarket T&T, cost me CAD5.00. Infact, I bought two Chinese sticky rice for CAD3.5 a couple days ago and having each for two nights as dinner. I love T&T! 
 
Then walked to see Totems. There are 7 totems in one spot. I have never seen the real ones. I like Native American design a lot. It is really dinamic, like ancient Japanese and Chinese artifacts. It makes me think there is connection among Pan-Pacific civilizations/cultures (Inca, Maya, Aztec, Taiwan, Japan, China etc). 

Then I saw 9 Oclock Cannon and went back to the bus stop. On the way back, I saw a few seals a little far away. One of them was lying on a rock(?) and others were swimming around.  As it ws to far, I could not take a photo of them.

Back to Downtown and then caught Seabus to North Vancouver. From Londsdale bus stop, I took 229 bus to Lynn Valley. Here has a suspenson bridge. Capilano is famous for a suspension bridge bt it costs a lot to walk across it. But the one in Lynn is free! It was quite high (40m or so) and pretty long (70m or so), so if you are afraid of height, you shouldn't be there. The view fom the bridge is great. I saw a few young guys were jumping off from a clif to the cleek. It seemed really high up there, so they must hurt a lot to jump into water....
Lynn Valley Park has lots of walking trails,and they all seem nice to walk, but I was too tired to do so.
Went back to the bus stop and back the same way to Londsdale. Then caught Seabus to Waterfront station, then Sky Train back to Chinatown.

Again I bought Chinese Sticky rice, this time CAD2.50 for two, what a bargain!

Tomorrow I'm moving to HI Vancouver- Jerico Beach and receiving my bike. Hopefully the process of receving the bike going smoothly. I hope can see my bike intact without scratch and I can start up the engine without any trouble. Please wish me luck!
