Day23: 2010年8月16日

Cochran to Calgary
12,357km to 12,422km = 65km

今日はBrianもワシも朝ゆっくりです。それにしても夜寒かったです。
テントは露でびしょぬれです。
結局10時くらいにBrianを見送り、ワシもカルガリーへ出発。
また独りで走り出します。Brianとはメキシコかどっこかで再会を誓いました。

ネットをしようとマックで昼飯。WiFiが遅くて結局何も出来ず。
Daveの店Anderwerksの場所を確認して（今日は休み）HI Calgary City Centralへ。
1泊30ドルですがWiFiも有るしバイクを裏庭に駐車させてくれるのでここに2泊することに。

荷物を片付けた後はテントと寝袋をよーく乾燥させます。幸い天気はいいので良く干せました。

それからチャイナタウンに出て夕飯を物色しましたが、結構高いです。フードコートみたいなのが見つかりません。
結局スーパーで買出しをして宿で食べようと歩いてると、教会の人たちがホットドックの炊き出しをしてたのでそれをもらって夕飯にしました。それにしても長い行列だったな。

宿に戻ってきたら日本人パッカーのシュン君とアッコちゃん夫妻に出会いました。新婚旅行をかねて世界一周中とのこと。南米から上がってきたそうです。新婚旅行で世界一周とはなかなかやりますな。
トロントからバスで3日間かけて今日到着したそうです。
明日イエローストーンに向けて旅立つ予定。

もう12時です。お休みなさーい。

Day23: 16Aug2010

Cochran to Calgary

Brian and I got up late today. It was really cold last night an our tents were sorked with dew.
Saw off Brian and I headed to Calgary.

I had lunch at McDonald's to get WiFI. But the connection was so slow and I couldn't do anything.

After that I went to Dave's shop, Anderwerks to check the location as I will bring my bike in. Today it was closed though.

Then checked in at Hi Calgary Central Hostel. It costs CAD30 a night but has fre WiFi and they let me park GS in the backyard.

I gotta dry the tent and the sleeping bag under the good sun. I also had a good sun bath too.

I walked to Chinatown for dinner. But I could not find any cheap eat so I decided to walk back to the hostel to cook. On the way back, I saw people lining up for free hot dog served by Church people. It was a long queue though. I got a free meal, Yeh.

Back to the hostel, I met Japanese backpackers, Shun and Akko. They just got married this year and went for a round world trip for their honeymoon! That sounds good.
They came all the way from Toronto by bus . It took them 3 days!
They are thinking to go to Yellowknife tomorrow. What the energetic guys!

It pasts mid-night now, so good night!

Day22: 2010年8月15日

Nakusp to Cochran

6時に起きて出発の準備。3日間も同じ場所にテントを張ったのは初めてでした。3日振にテントを畳んだんですけど、なんか上手くいかないですね。ちょっと時間がかかってしまいました。Kevinに別れを告げて出発。

フェリーまでおよそ30分。すでに待っている車やバイクがいます。まだ8時半過ぎですが、フェリーが来るのは9時半！約1時間の待ちです。

フェリーを降りてRiverstokeまで30分。給油してマックでブランチ。3日前に同じ事をしてましたね。進路は逆ですが。久しぶりにバイクに載ったせいか、なんか納まりが悪いです。肘が痛くなるし、なんなんでしょう⁇
今日は暑いです。30度を超えてます。

RiverstokeからGoldenへ。ここでアイスクリーム休憩をしてLake Louiseで給油。ここからBanffに進路をとります。

Banffを過ぎてしばらく走った後Brianは、High Riverという街までカメラやパソコンの充電器を取りに向かいました。丁度一週間前にもーてるに泊まった時に置き忘れたそうです。

Cochranという街でBrianを待つ事に。Tim Hortonsでコーヒーを飲みながら日本人を書いてると、何人かのバイク便乗りに話しかけられました。GSとワシの国際ナンバーが目を引くみたいですね。お陰で楽しく時間が過ごせました。
8時過ぎにBrianと再会しキャンプ場に。2人で1つのテントサイトをシェアしたので1人13ドルです。安くあがりました。

明日はいよいよBrianと別れます。またメキシコ当たりで再会したいです。

Day22: 15Aug2010

Nakusp to Cochran

I got up at 6am and started to pack up. I never stayed in the same tent site for 3days. It made me slower to puck up stuffs. I made Brian wait a bit. Said Good-bye to Kevin and we took off.

About 30mins ride to Ferry. There were a queue already. It was just after 8:30am but the ferry will arrive at 9am! We stuck there for nearly one hour.

After we got off from the ferry, another 30mins ride to Riverstoke. Fueled up and had brunch at McDonald's. Didn't we do the same 3days ago? Yes we did bit riding opposite direction.

It was really hot day, should be more than 30degrees. We stopped at Golden for an ice cream break.

Stopped at Lake Louise for gas then headed to Banff. Just after Banff, Brian headed South to High River to pick up his chargers. I went to Cochran and waited for him there.
Having a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons and writing diary, a few riders came and talked to me about the bike and the trip. Obviously GS and the international number plate gat people's attentions. I could spend a good time there.

Meet up with Brian after 8pm and went to a campground. As we are sharing a tent site, so it costs CAD13 each. A bargain!

Tomorrow Brian will head to North and I head to South. I hope we will see again in Mexico.

Day21: 2010年8月14日

今日は10時からパンク修理とタイヤ交換の講習会。また朝早く起きてしまったので、図書館の外でインターネット。

パンク修理、役に立ちました。タイヤを剥くコツを掴めたかも。でもワシのチューブレスだからあんまり関係無いんでよね。もちろんチューブレスタイヤのパンク修理の仕方も実演してくれました。

湖畔で昼飯を食べたあとは、道端での修理の講習。いざという時の為に持っておくべきものがまだ少し足らないようです。カルガリーで買い足さないと。

夜飯はBrianとBuell乗りのKevinと湖畔のレストランで食べました。何故かフィッシュアンドチップスをむしょうに食べたくなって、オーダーしました。オーストラリア以来食べてないですからね。何カ月ブリだろう⁉旨かったです。

今日は中央アメリカとアフリカの体験談を聞けました。やっぱりラテンアメリカは楽しそうですね。アフリカも魅力的だけど今のところは行く気無いです。

11時までプレゼンテーションを聴いて、それからパブへ。12時過ぎまで飲んでキャンプ場に戻る途中で結婚式のパーティーがあったなで飛び入り参加。何人かには嫌な顔をされましたがダンスをしたり楽しかった。あ、ワシはダンスのセンス最悪です。
明日はいよいよカルガリーに向けて出発です。

Day21: 14Aug2010

I went to library for WiFi connection in the morning. At 10am, Grant gave us a puncture repair and tire changing seminar. It went for 2.5hours and was really great. I think I can take off a tire from a wheel much easily. He also showed us how to plug a puncture on a tubeless tire, so it was all good for me.

We went to the lakeside at lunch time. It has a nice beach and it was really nice sunny day. Brian had a good swim there.

After that, the roadside repair seminar was on. Now I know what I should carry for unexpected. I need to buy some in Calgary.

Brian, Kevin, a Scottish Buell Ulysses rider, and I went for dinner at Lelake hotel. It is the oldest hotel in BC. I had Fish and Chips. The last time I had this was back in Australia. How many months ago was that!?

The evening presentations were about Africa and Central America.
I cannot wait to get down to Latin America. It seems to be so fun there. Africa is also fascinating, but at the moment I don't have a plan to go there, except North Africa.

We stayed there till 11pm and headed to the hotel for a drink. Dominic joined us.

On the way back to the campground, we found a wedding party going on, so we joined them. Some of them did not like we were there but some welcome us. It was fun watching Brian and Kevin dancing with a chick. Me? I am a terrible dancer. A girl asked me to dance but soon she realized I cannot dance. So she took off!

Tomorrow we will head off to Calgary. Brian is supposed to go North but he just realized he left chargers of his camera, PC etc in a motel near Calgary. He is back to the same place where he was a week ago.

HUの会合2日目 / HU meeting 2nd day

Day20: 2010年8月13日

今日は早く起きなくていいのにいつものくせで6時には目が覚めてしまいました。
トイレの帰りにNeilがコーヒーに招いてくれたのでお邪魔しました。9時からHorizon Unlimitedの創始者Grantの写真の撮り方についての講習会があるのでそれまではノンビリ過ごします。

写真の撮り方で学んだことはBrianもワシも全くダメな撮り方をしてるということ。基本的に今までやってきたことの逆をすれば良い写真が撮れる筈⁉
講習会の後早速試して見ましたがあんまり進歩は見られませんでした。ヤッパリ才能ですよね、写真は。
その後はクマ対策の講習とかバイクとは直接関係ないけれど旅がより安全で楽しいモノになるような講習を請けました。

空いている時間は色々なライダーと情報交換。モチロン為になる話しとかくだらない話しもありますが楽しいですね、バイクの話しは。
ワシは特にパニアについて色々聞いたり見て回ったりしました。特にCalgaryから来たDaveはワシと同じGSにTouratechのZEGA Proを付けています。ウーン、ナイス。スイスから来たHerbertsとEmmanuelaもToutatechを押します。ワシもTouratechのが欲しいな…。

それからCalgaryのBMWスペシャリスト、AnderwerksのDave(またDaveですね)が来ているのでサービスについて聞きに行きました。350ドルくらいかかるそうですが、サービス中横で観てて勉強できるようにしてくれるとのこと。

今日もSounth Americaの体験談を聞けました。実際に街を走っている映像もあって、かなり混雑してますし、ルールもめちゃくちゃです。ヤッパリ幅が広いと大変かも、って考えさせられました。メジャーで測ったら、110センチあるんですよね、ワシのパニア。Touratechのよりも10センチ幅ひろです。Touratech買っちゃおうかなぁ。

夜は流石に冷え込みますね。キャンプ場まで小走りで戻りました。
明日は土曜日。10時からパンク修理とタイヤ交換についての講習があります。楽しみだな。

Day20: 13Aug2010

I got up at 6am as usual, I did not need to be up so early though.
Neil invited me for a cuppa.

The founder of Horizon Unlimited, Grant showed us how to take good pictures. What Brian and I learnt is we were doing everything wrong. So if we wanna take a good picture, simply we do the opposite of what we were doing. After the lesson, I tried the technique I learnt but it didn't work that easily. I guess I don't have a talent to take nice photos.

There were interesting lectures about how to deal with bears etc. It's good to know those tips to make our motorcycle trips safer and more fun!

During free time, we talked about bikes, trips and so on with different people. Some are very useful information and others are just fun to talk about.
I was keen to get more info on panniers and looking around others set up. Especially, Dave's set up impressed me. He has a same GS as mine with Touratech ZEGA Pro panniers. Nice and neat. Also Herberts and Emmanuela from Swiss recommend me to get a pair of Touratech. Now I wanna get one!

I met another Dave, the owner if Anderwerks, Calgary, and asked about the servicing my GS. It will cost around CAD350 and I can watch while it is been serviced.
That sounds good.

In there evening, there were presentations about South America trip, very useful and very entertaining.

It got cold a lot in the evening. I got to jog back to the camp site to keep myself warm.

Tomorrow, Grant is gonna giving a lecture on how to fix punctures and change tire. It's gonna be fun.

Horizons Unlimited meeting! In Nakusp, BC

Day19: 2010年8月12日

Golden to Nakusp
11,661km to 11,881km = 190km

昨晩は雨が降っていましたが、朝には晴れてました。熊も来なかったし、いい朝を迎えました。今日は200キロそこそこしか走らないので、ゆっくりでいいのですが8時には出発の準備が出来たので走り出します。

100キロくらい走ってRiverstokeで給油。マックでコーヒーブレイク。残念ながらWiFiはありませんでした。

Riverstokeからフェリーまでの道はいい眺めが続きます。フェリーには10台くらいのバイクが。みんな会合に向かいます。対岸に着くとバイクが真っ先に走り出します。Nakuspまでの約50キロ、ワインディングが続いて楽しいです。パニアを付けてますが120キロくらいでコーナーを飛ばします。気持ちイイですね！

お昼前にNakuspに到着。すでに20台以上のバイクが来てます。テントを張って街に買い出し。スーパーでパンとソーセージを買って湖畔で昼飯。最高ですな。キャンプ場に戻り何人かと話しをして時を過ごします。Calgaryから来たEkkaとAudrey夫妻はBMW R1200GSとF650GSに乗っています。Calgaryでサービスを考えていると話したらCalgaryのバイク屋さんが会合に来るとのことなので、紹介してもらうことに。やったね。プレゼンテーションは6時から始まるとのことなのでNeilとJoanna夫妻のサイトにBrianとお邪魔してしばらく歓談。プレゼンテーションは6時から11時半まで4人のプレゼンターがしました。どれも面白かったです。明日は中央アメリカと南アメリカについてのプレゼンテーションがあるので楽しみです。

Day19: 12Aug2010

Golden to Nakusp

It was raining in the middle if the night but cleared in the morning. It's cloudy still but much better than raining. No bear came to visit us and we had nice sleep. No hurry as we needed to make around 200km today, but we were ready by 8:00am, so we took off.

Around 100km ride, we made a stop at Riverstoke for fuel and cuppa at McDonald's. Unfortunately there wasn't WiFi again! From Riverstoke to the ferry, it was a beautiful road to ride. Around 10 bikes were waiting fir the ferry and all going to HU meeting. After we got off the ferry, around 50km of winding road. Doing corners at 120km/h with panniers on was fun!

We arrived at the campground before lunch time. There were 20 or more bikes already there. We set up our tents and went for grocery shopping. After having lunch by the lakeside, brilliant view, we went back to the campground and started to get to know people. Next to our tent, Ekka and Audrey, ones of the organizers of the meeting, so it was a good start to get to know people. They are from Calgary and told me that one of the BMW dealer in Calgary is coming here! So I can find out how I can service my GS. Presentations start from 6:00pm, so we went to Neil and Joanna's site and chat for a while. The presentations were all interesting. Tomorrow there are more presentations about Central and South America, so it will be good day.
