Day 314: 2011年6月3日
Cuenca (La Casa Cuencana)

今日は朝からバイクの整備。先ずはエアクリーナの掃除です。乾式なので取り出してバンバンたたくだけです。ダートを走ったのにそんなに汚れてません。サイドパネルを外してエアクリーナを外すのですが、何故かサイドパネルを取り付けるのに苦労しました。
トップボックスホルダーを支えていた金具を取り外したのでネジが最後までねじ込めずに余ってます。そこでワッシャーを買いに行くことに。
昼飯はアダムと近くのコロンビア料理屋で。1.60ドル。それからワッシャー探しと昨日頼んだ袋を取りにいきます。金具屋が何軒かあるのですが何処もサイズの大きいワッシャーしか置いてありません。どうしましょ。袋はなかなかの出来上がり。しかし思ったより小さいぞ。バイクカバー入るのか??
ガソリン・ストーブMSRウィスパー・ライトは使用後ガソリン臭いのでタッパーに入れるといいとアダムがいうので丁度会うサイズのタッパーを購入。これでパニアの中がガソリン臭くなりません。
宿に戻りワッシャーはトップボックス・ホルダーのワッシャーを流用し事なきを得ましたが、バイクカバーが袋に入りません。しかし工具を入れているSW Motechのタンクバックの袋にバイクカバー入れることが出来ました。作った袋は工具入れとして使います。残念なことにMSRを入れたタッパーはヒビが入ってしまいました・・・。きつすぎたんですね。そこでジップロック・バッグを使うことにしました。これならスペースも無駄にならない!?
トップボックスを郵便局へ持っていこうとしたら、女将のマルタが「今日女の子が4人来るから個室に移ってくれないかしら？」と。ワシは4人部屋を使ってたんですね。個室は隣の家にあり8ドルと安くしてくれたので、まぁいいでしょう。
それから郵便局にトップボックスを持っていきました。重い・・・。重量を測ったら10.5キロもありました。金額は151ドル!! 高い!!!!! しかし捨てるのにはもったいないしトップボックスを買うとしたらもっとします。ゴジラロック、トップボックス・ホルダー、服、DVDドライブ、Mont・Bellのビーサン、手袋などなど、色々入ってますからね。
宿に戻り今度はバックパックを切ってリアシートの保護として使います。これで満足のいく形になりました。後はどう水を運ぶかですね。キャメルバックのブレーダーをタンクバッグにいれますかね。
夕飯を食べてクラシックのコンサートに。旧大聖堂内で演奏です。無料です。モーツアルト、ドビュッシー、リストなどの演奏。クエンカはなかなか文化的な都市ですね。
明日はみんなでインカの遺跡インガピルカ(Ingapirca)に行って来ます。

I have been working on my GS from this morning. FIrst, I cleaned the air cleaner. It was a dry (paper) type, so I just bushed it against the floor. Although I rode on dirt, it wasn't that dirty. Somehow it took time to put back side panel.
I took off the top box holder. The bolts holding the pillers sustaining the plate I could not screw in completely, so I needed to buy spacers.
I had lunch with Adam at a Colombian Restaurant. Almuerzo was US$1.60. Then I went to look for spacers and pick up the bag I ordered yesterday. I went to all hardware shops nearby, but they did not have the light spacer for me. The bag was well made, but it seemed like little too small to fit the bike cover. Ouch...
I also bought a tapperware toput my MSR fuel stove, so that it does not make the pannier smelly.
Back to the hostel, I tried to fit the bike cover into the bag, but it did not fit. Luckily I had another bag used to put tools and the bike cover fit perfectly in it. The bag made was now used as a tool bag. Also I could use the spacers of the top box holder.
I put the MSR stove into the tapper wear, but it was too tight and the case got cracked.... But I realised the better idea, to use Ziplock bags to put the stove. The Ziplock bags would not take up any extra space.
When I was about to go to a post office to take the top box, Marta - the owner of the hostel, asked me to change the room as there would be 4 girls coming today. I was using 4 bed room dorm alone, and she asked me to move to a private room for extra US$1 a night. And I agreed.
After moving the room, I went to the post office. Carrying the top box for 5 blocks was pretty hard. When it was scaled, it weighed 10.5kgs! Lots of weight loss I made. With lower sentre gravity and less weight, now my GS should handle much better than before.
I made a pillion seat protector using my backpack (against scratches from straps and the tyre). Now I am satisfaied with the setup. Only concern is how I can carry water. I am considering buying a Camelbak brader.
After dinner, I went to see a classic concert in Old Cathedral. It was free and pretty good.
TOmorrow I will go to Ingapirca, the one of the most important Inca ruin in Ecuador.

Day 313: 2011年6月2日

朝はバイクカバーを入れる袋を作りに街へ。袋はメキシコのドゥランゴで失くしたんですよね。昨日ブランカが教えてくれた店へ行きました。5ドルで作ってくれるそうです。
それからTatoo Adventure Shopへ行きCamelbakの下見。色々なオプションを考えて今日は買わずに退散。
宿に戻り新しいセットアップの試行錯誤。トップケースを外してタイヤをシートの上に置いてみたりバイクの後ろにぶる下げてみたり（マフラーからの廃棄ガスがタイヤに当たるので不可）。色々無駄なものを整理したら多分トップボックスを入れてですけど10キロは軽く出来ました。
昼時になったのでみんなでメルカドへ昼飯。みんなは豚の丸焼きを頼んでましたがワシはこの間タツヤ君と食べたので違うものを。写真はクイです。天竺ネズミ(モルモット）の丸焼きです。前歯が出てます。エクアドルとペルーでは特別な料理。しかし10ドルもします。
宿に戻りまたセットアップ。ようやく形が見えてきました。タイヤはリヤ・シートと荷台に置いて、タイヤの中にバッグを入れる形になります。これで軽くなりまた重心も低くなったので乗りやすくなることは間違いないでしょう。
セットアップを試行錯誤してたせいか今日はエラク疲れました。フィルム・フェスティバルには行かずに宿でゆっくりです。それにしてもトップボックスとその他の物を送り返すのにいくらかかるのでしょう？明日郵便局に行って見ます。

We went to a shop where I could make a bag for my bike cover. Blanca told us last night where to go. It will cost US$5 to make one with a draw code. I lost the bag in Durango, Mexico and it was hard to pack the cover neatly.
Then we went to Tatoo Adventure Shop to check out Camel Bak. Now I got more ideas how to setup the bike.
Back to the hostel, I started to test diffrent ways of carryng tyres and stuffs. Carrying the tyre at the back of the bike or on the top of rear seat. I took off the top case and selected things I don't need, then I could make 10kgs lighter!!
At lunch time, we went out for lunch at Mercado. Everyone was having the roast pork, but I had one with Tatsuya before, so I had something different. I tried Humita, the Ecuadorian snack, and it was sweet. I kinda liked the taste but Claire did not like it.
In the afternoon, I continue testing setups, and finally I could see a better setup. Carring tyres on the top of the rear seat and put dry sacks in the middle of the tyre. By doing so I could make the centre of gravity lower. The handling of the bike will improve a lot for sure.
I was so tired, so I decided not to go to the film festival and go to bed early.
I wonder how much it will cost to send the top case back to Japan....

今日は朝から洗車に行きました。ダートを走ったのと雨の中走ったのでかなり汚れてますので昨日ファンに教えてもらった洗車屋に行きました。
最初は3台で15ドルと言われたのですが10ドルに値切りました。まぁ、自分で洗うので3.30ドルは妥当でしょう。洗車をしてるとファンが様子を見に来ました。彼は向かいのビルで仕事をしてるんですね。
右パニアの凹みは自分で直すのは苦労しそうなので何処かで直せないか訊いたら午後連れて行ってくれるとのこと。アダムも溶接屋に連れて行ってもらうので一緒に行くことに。
高圧洗浄機で泥を流した後シャンプーでゴシゴシ。かなりきれいになりました。宿に戻り昼飯を食べたら洗車屋に戻りファンと合流。
先ずはアダムのパニアラックの溶接です。流石ファンが紹介してくれた溶接工だけあってあっという間にアダムの望んだとおりに仕上がりました。しかも1ドル!! 安すぎです。
そしてワシのパニアの修理。ファンのバイク仲間のセザールの修理工場へ。セザールはWR250とKTM Sper Enduroに乗るダートライダー。色々話をしてくれました。パニアもしっかり直りました。代金は「NO Priblem!」の一言。タダです。ありがとう!!!! Muchas Gracias, Juan and Cesar!!
宿に戻りアダムと昨日行かなかったアウトドアーショップへ。しかしここにも求めているものはありませんでした。帰りに腹が減ったので夕飯。7時にウベの友達のエリザベスとブランカが来たのでお茶をした後バンフ・フィルム・フェスティバルへ。ここでオリバーとエレナと再会。皆でカフェに行って歓談。楽しい夜になりました。
明日は新しいセットアップを試してみます。

We went to wash our bikes at a car wash near Juan's office. We were told US$5 each bike, but as we would be washing our bikes by ourselves we negotiated the price and got US$10 for 3 bikes.
Whle washing, Juan came down to see us. He said he would take us to a welder and a smash repairer in the afternoon.
As we rode on dirt roads and rained a lot, out bikes were pretty dirty. Using pressured water, we splashed the dirt of the bikes. Then using soap water to make them clean. Amazingly our bikes were clean now!
After lunch we came back tothe car wash and met Juan. He took us to the welder first. Adam needed to get his pannier frame fixed. As Juan can speak English, Adam could tel the welder - Ernando what he wanted. The job was quick and neat. And Ernando asked for US$1 only!! What a bargain!! Adam paid him US$2 for the good job.
Then Juan took us to a smash repairer his friend - Cesar - owns. Cesar is also a motorcyclist (owns WR250 and KTM Super Enduro). He showed us photos and told us stories. 2 guys were hummering the dent out. It was fixed in no time. I asked the price andCesar said "No problem!". Juan said "He is also the moto man!!". Muchas gracias Amigos!!
We made an appointment with Cesar on this weekend. Unfortunately Juan has a family commitment so he cannot join us.
Back to the hostel. We went to Accion Outdoor sport, but there we could not find what we wanted....
In the evening, Uwe brought his friend Elizabeth. And she brought her friend Blanca. We went ou for Banff Mountain Film Festival, Tonight was the first night and it was free admission. Oliver and Elena were there a well. We went for a drink later and had a great evening.
I will try a new setup tomorrow. Hopefully I can fit everything nicely.

Day 311: 2011年5月31日

今日はみんなでタイヤを探しにバイク屋巡り。しかし探してるタイヤがなかなかありません。
マークとクレアはリア・タイヤ 120/70 18を。ワシはフロント・タイヤ 110/80 19を。ウベはリア・タイヤ 150/70 18を。何故だかウベの探しているピレリ・MT90は簡単に見つかります。一番安いのでMr. Motorbikeで199ドル。
探しているうちに昼時になったので昼飯。それからアウトドアーショップを探しに。アダムはKeenのスポーツサンダルを。ワシは防水ダッフルバッグとキャメルバックを。ウベはキャメルバックを探しに。しかしシエスタなので店は閉まってます。そこで一旦宿に。
宿でバイクをチェックをしてたら右パニアの内側が凹んでることに気が付きました。コケた時に凹んだのでしょう。明日洗車したらマークからハンマーを借りて直します。
3時過ぎにContinental Tyreの輸入業者へタクシーで行きました。沢山タイヤがあります、が、求めているTKC80のフロント・タイヤはまだ輸入してないと・・・。マークとクレアの求めているサイズは無いので諦めかけたら、キトにあるダンロップの輸入業者に連絡してくれてD605をオーダーすることに。木曜日には届くそうです。
ワシはConti Escapeの100/90 19を進められましたがオン70% オフ30%なのであまり意味がありません。ペルーにもコンティネンタルの輸入業者があるのでペルーで見つけられる可能性はあると言ってましたが、リマまではないので、ペルーまでのダートとペルー北部のダートがつらくなりますね。
宿に戻りアウトドアーショップへ。ここでアダムはKeenのスポーツサンダルを購入。しかしワシの求めているダッフルバッグは無し。キャメルバックは100～111ドルでありました。マークがコンプレッション・サックをくれたので寝袋が小さく収納できるようになったので（羽毛なのでコンプレッションサックを使いたくなかったのですが）、トップボックスを使わなくて済むようになるかもです。そうしたらトップボックスとゴジラロック、バックパックなどを日本に送り返すつもりです。
夜はエクアドル人ライダーのファンを囲んでインド料理屋タージ・マハルで夕食。ワシはチキン・ビリヤーニを。パキスタン人経営なので味付けが美味い！キトのカサ・ヘルブリングで出会ったスイス人カップルのオリバーとエレナとも参加して楽しい夕食会になりました。
明日はバイクを洗車、パニアの修理、アウトドア屋巡りなど盛りだくさんの予定です。

Cuenca (La Casa Cuencana)

We all were looking for tyres from the morning. We went to several motorcycleshops, but Mark & Claire and I could not find anything what we wanted. Not sure why Uwe could find his Pirrelli MT90 everywhere. His cheapest option so far was US$199 at Mr. Motorcycle.
After lunch break we went to Accion Outdoor sport shop, but it was closed for lunch break (Siesta!)...
We decided to come back after 3pm and went back to the hostel. While I was checking my GS, I realised the right pannier had a dent (the flrame side). It must be made when I dropped the bike on the way to Banos. Mark has a hummer, so I will borrow it and hummer the dent out.
We went to Continental Tyre Importer. There were so many tyres available, but they did not have what we were after. TKC80 has not been imported to Ecuador, according to the importer. It will be here on next shipment (July). Mark and Claire could not find anything to fit their rims. But the importer called his friend at Dunlop na dfound D605 for their bikes. The tyres would be there on thursday.
Mark gave me a complession suck that I could use for my sleeping bag. I knew I could use one to make my sleeping bag small, but the feathers will be shrunk. That was why I did not use it, but now I think it is good idea, so I can get rid of my top box.
After that we went to Tatoo Adventure shop. There Adam finaly found a pair of Keen sandals to fit his feet. But I could not find any waterproof dufflebag.... Camelbaks were available from US$100.
In the evening we went out for Indian Dinner at Taj Mahar. Juan, the Ecuadorian adventure rider from HU Hub joined us. He is very kind and heplful. He would take us to those repairers tomorrow (Adam needs a welder and I need a repairer of the pannier).
Tomorrow we will give our bikes a big wash and do the reparirings.

今日はみんなでタイヤを探しにバイク屋巡り。しかし探してるタイヤがなかなかありません。
マークとクレアはリア・タイヤ 120/70 18を。ワシはフロント・タイヤ 110/80 19を。ウベはリア・タイヤ 150/70 18を。何故だかウベの探しているピレリ・MT90は簡単に見つかります。一番安いのでMr. Motorbikeで199ドル。
探しているうちに昼時になったので昼飯。それからアウトドアーショップを探しに。アダムはKeenのスポーツサンダルを。ワシは防水ダッフルバッグとキャメルバックを。ウベはキャメルバックを探しに。しかしシエスタなので店は閉まってます。そこで一旦宿に。
宿でバイクをチェックをしてたら右パニアの内側が凹んでることに気が付きました。コケた時に凹んだのでしょう。明日洗車したらマークからハンマーを借りて直します。

今日は起きたら9時! さすがに500キロ走ったので疲れてたのですかね。
タツヤ君と今日は温泉に行くことになりナランハへの引越しは明日にしました。
結局昼飯を食べてから温泉に行こうということになりメルカドで昼飯。豚の丸焼きと豚の煮込みを。
温泉郷は」バニョス(Banos)といいます。昨日までいたバニョスと同じ名前ですね。しかしこちらのバニョスはそんなにメジャーな観光地でないのでローカルな温泉が楽しめるかな、と思っていきました。
バス12番に乗って35分くらいですかね。バニョスに到着。しかし温泉施設らしきものは見当たらず。何回か人に聞いてようやくたどり着きました、が、営業してないみたいです。門が閉まってます。それにしてもカラオケ・バーとかあるのですがさびれっぷりが日本のいけてない温泉郷みたいです。
何軒かあるみたいなので他にも探します。Piedora de Aguaという温泉施設がありましたが1人10ドル！日本のスーパー銭湯並に高い! ので他を探します。が、見つかったのは高級そうなホテルに付随している施設。そこでまた人に訊くとさっき閉まってた施設に行けと。
行ってみると別の場所に入り口がありました。1人2.25ドル。中には温泉プールとサウナがあります。現地の兄ちゃん達が泳いではしゃいでます。あまり期待できないな。
お湯は？ぬるい・・・。完全にちょっといつもより温かい温水プールです。サウナもイマイチ。ここはお勧めできません。サウナで現地のおっちゃんたちと歓談。結構会話が成り立つじゃないですか。
シャワーもお湯がちょろちょろで寒い・・・。バスでクエンカまでもどり、宿の温かいシャワーを浴びてようやく落ち着けました。結局温泉で落ち着くどころか疲れてしまいました…。
それから市内観光。カテドラルを見てアイスクリーム。カサ・ナランハを下見に行きましたが、ブザーを鳴らしても誰も出てきません。仕方が無いので近くの飯屋で夕飯を食べていたらマークがワシを見つけました。そして一緒にナランハへ。クレアは夕飯を作っていました。アダムとウベは出かけてるそうです。
中は結構広くバイクも屋内に入れられます。建物が結構古く、共同トイレは詰まっているそうです。しかしドミが5ベッドなので全員で移れば安くなりそうですし部屋にトイレ・シャワーが付いてます。ワシの泊まっているカサ・クエンカに皆で移住するかナランハにワシが移住するかは後で決めることに成りました。
宿に戻るとインペリが訪ねてきてフランス人姉ちゃんのファニーとマリー、ドイツ人兄ちゃんのステファンがワシらの部屋に来て遅くまで歓談してました。
マークとクレアは来なかったのですがメールが来ていて明日皆でこっちに引っ越すことにしたとありました。

I woke up at 9am. I guess I was really tired riding more than 500km yesterday.
I decided to move to Casa Naranja tomorrow and go to Banos for a thermal pool with Tatsuya. This Banos is not Banos de Agua Santa where I was yesterday. It is 30 mis by bus from Cuenca. It is not very touristic place, so we were hoping we could experience a local thermal pool. Then we found another one "Piedora de Agua". But the admission cost US$10!! That's too expensive.
We asked around again and people said we should go back to the one seemed to be closed. So we did and found the entrance at another side. The admission was US$2.25. There was a thermal pool (looked like a normal swiming pool) and turish path (sauna). We saw those young fellows were swiming in the pool and making splash and fun. It did not seem a proper thermal pool...
And in fact it was just a warmer swiming pool. We could not really relax... The sauna was also was not really good sauna. But we could have chat with locals and had a good time.
The shower was not really functioning either... So our aim - to get wamer from inside of our bodies - failed. We went back to the hostel and had hot shower, then we felt better.
In the evening we went out to see Centro of the city. We saw Cathedral and had a scoop of icecream. Then we went to Casa Naranja to see my friends. But noone came out. But while we were having dinner at a restaurant nearby, Mark found me. He took me to Casa Naranja and showed me. Claire was cooking dinner, but Adam and Uwe were outsomewhere.
We descussed whether I should move there or they should move to Casa Cuenca. They will come to see Casa CUenca later and decide.
Back to Casa CUenca, Imperi came to visit us and other guests Funy, Mari, and Stephan came to our room and talked till late.
Mark and Cliare did not come here but sent me an e-mail saying Adam and Uwe decided to move here and Mark and Claire will do the same.
