Day 473: 2011年11月10日

Santiago de Chile (Moai Viajero B&B)
45,118km to 45,147km = 29km

DSCF0317.jpgDSCF0318.jpgMotouringに行ってカルロスとスタッフに挨拶。

DSCF0326.jpgDSCF0327.jpg待つこと30分。

Day 473:10 NOV 2011

Santiago de Chile (Moai Viajero B&B)
45,118km to 45,147km = 29km

Today I visited "Motouring" to greet Carlos and his staffs.

Just befoer I left the hostel, I found a nail stuck on my rear tyre... It was the first time I got a puncture during any of my trip.

As my tyre is tubeless, as long as the nail stuck in the tyre, the air pressure inside the tyre should be kept and the nail head did not come out, so I decided to go to Motouring and will fix the puncture.

Just before Motouring, there was a BMW dealer. So I went threre and asked for fixing the rear mud splash. But to buy parts, it would cost me US100 or so. As the rear shock would be protected by a mud sling from dirt and mud, so I decided not to fix it.

Then I went to Motouring. Calros welcame me and asked me if he Wilbers shock working fine. I told him it is excellently working.

Day 472: 2011年11月9日

Mendoza, Argentina to Santiago de Chile (Moai Viajero B&B)
44,756km to 44,965km = 209km (Argentinian side)
44,965km to 45,118km = 153km (Chilean side)
Total = 362km

DSCF0275.jpg7号線を進みます。

DSCF0309.jpgDSCF0310.jpg国境はもうすぐそこ。

Day 472: 09 NOV 2011

Mendoza, Argentina to Santiago de Chile (Moai Viajero B&B)
44,756km to 44,965km = 209km (Argentinian side)
44,965km to 45,118km = 153km (Chilean side)
Total = 362km

The blackout was over just after the midnight. My plan today was to ride to Puente del Inca, less than 200km away from Mendoza, so it should be an easy day.

I left the hostel around 10am and went to the BMW dealer to clean the air filter. Cristian let me use the workshop, so I unloaded luggages and took off the side panel etc to accesss the filter. With compressed air, a mechanic clean the filter. As expected, there was quite lots of dust in.

Re-installed the air filter and reassembled the panel etc, I got ready to go. But I realied the front seat was not set properly, so I had to unload the luggages again, and set the seat properly, then geared up again... So I left the dealer after 11am.

I took RN7, and I passed the petrol station I filled gas yesterday. Then I took a right turn where I met the dust dtorm yesterday. Then I saw snow capped mountains in front of me!! I could not see them yesterday due to the storm. They were beautiful.

On the way to Uspallata, gradually altitude got higher. The scenary was nice on the way. I enjoyed riding on RN7. Very different experience than yesterday.

At Uspallata I had lunch. Winds got stronger from here. I arrived Puente del Inca, but it was really cold and windy. I was planning to camp here, but I had a second thought. It would be freezing to spend a night here. The day light was still prenty and I would be able to make to Santiago easily from there.

I was thinkng like that and kept riding, so I almost missed the monument of "Puente del Inca". I saw 2 motorcyclists waving to me, so I realised it was there. They were a German couple travelling with their 20-year-old SUZUKI DR350. I told them they were just like Mark&Claire, and they said they met Mark&Claire in Valparaiso 3 days ago!! What a small world. But I wondered why Mark&Claire were there 3 days ago. They should have been down south. Then 2 Germans told me that Mark&Claire were to go home as Claire'S dad is in a hospital.

It was sad to hear that they had to shorten their trip, butI am hoping that her dad will recover soon.

According to Lonely Planet, Puente del Inca is Argentin's the No 1 natunal wonder. But it did not look that great.

From there a few minutes ride, there was a "Mirador" of Aconcagua, the highest peak of South America. So I parked my GS and walked to the mirador.

I could see Aconcagua from far away, but I wanted to see close up. But it was really far to walk. So I asked Mr Sheep if it would be ok to turn back from here. He said no problem. So I took some photos from Aconcagua, and turned back.

The border to Chile was just there. There was a long tunnel, and in the middle of the tunnel, I entered Chilean territory. Immigration and custom facilities were located4km after the tunnel.

The process was easy but a girl at Chilean custom was a bit dodgy. I guess her duty was almost done, so she was in a hurry. She made many mistakes on the documents... When completed it was after 5:30pm. But to Santiago there was just 150km, so I could get there before the sunset.

Soon I started to make a steep descending of the mountain. I was heading to "Moai Viajero B&B" where I stayed when I went there to t\get the Wilbers shock absorber.

I got to Santiago just after 7pm. My GPS worked well and I got to the hostel without getting lost. Well done.

I parked my GS in the garage and checked in. As soonas I unloaded the gears, I put the bike cover over her, as the dog "Pepe" is famous for peeing on bike wheels!!

Well, I will visit Carlos @ Motouring tomorrow and I will spend another night in Santiago. Then I will go to Vina del Mar!!

Day 464: 2011年11月1日

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,234km to 42,244km = 10km

Day 464: 01 NOV 2011

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,234km to 42,244km = 10km

I went to see off Ohagi this morning. Her bus to Salta, Argentina supposed to be at 8:30am, but it did not come. There was no sign at the bus stop (not evena terminal), so we wondered if we were at the right spot. We asked a few people and everyone said we were right. Finally te bus came at 9:30am!

Then I went back to the hostel and saw off Chilean families and surfed Internet. Around 11am, Lucy came to my hostel and chicked in. We went to the centro and she tried to get cash out of ATM, but all of ATMs were put of cash!! We heard that by the evening, they would be filed.

We had a light snacks and walked to a swiming pool "Pozo3". Joseln @ the hostel told us it would be around 3km wak, but it seemed to be farther than that.

The swiming pool was located just off the road to Paso Jama. In the midle of he desert. The entrance cost 3,000CLP, it was little expensive, but swiming in the middle of desert was a treat!

The water was a little cold. We swam and chat and sat on the edge of the pool to dry ourselves.

We left Pozo3 around 3pm, and just after we left the venue, a Chilean famly on a brand-new Ford F150 gave us a lift!! Very kind of them.

Back to the hostel, I chat with Ricardo - a Chilean on BMW F800GS for a while. Lucy and I planned to cook steaks tonight, but a bucher was closed. So we had dinner at a restaurant.

Then I took her on my GS to see stars near "Valle de la Luna". As Atacama desert supposed to be the driest desert on the earth, we expected to see millions of stars, but the moon was too blight!! Still we saw some shootig stars.

Tomorrow I am heading to Argentina. Probably to Puramarca. Kris and Karin are also heading there tomorrow, so we might catch up there. Lucy is heading to Arica tomorrow night, then she is heading to Peru. So we wil catch up in London! Buen viaje!!

Day 463: 2011年10月31日

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,234km

DSCF9945.jpgサン・ペドロの街から西へ。

DSCF9965.jpgここからはダート。

DSCF9957.jpgDSCF9963.jpg先ずは、砂丘でストップ。

DSCF9974.jpgDSCF9980.jpgDSCF9981.jpg

DSCF9991.jpgDSCF9992.jpg所々で停まり、トレッキング。

DSCF9995.jpg帰りは追い風で降りも多いので楽チン。

Day 463: 31 OCT 2011

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,234km

This morning Ohagi suppsed to turn up but she didn'T. So I sepnt the morning updating the blog in English and chatting with Kris and Karin.

Just before lunch time, I received a message from Ohagi and she checked in a hostel nearby. So I went there to visit her.

She was with Lucy from UK, they met on the bus from Uyuni to Calama. They were planing to rent bicycles and go to "Valle de la Luna (Valey of the moon)" from 3pm, so I decided to join them. A bike cost 3,000CLP for half day.

Lucy is a to be Lawyer, will start her work at a law firm next Sep. She is travelling around South America till the end of this year.

We got our bicycles and left the town of San Pedoro! We crossed a dried river bed and road on a dirt until we met a highway to "Valey of the moon".

We peddled on the paved highway and turned right to the valley. The entrace fee was 2,000CLP each at Information centre.

Just after we left the centre, Ohagi got a puncture. We struggled to take of the tyre of the rim, a guy from the centre came out and helped us out. Luckiy us and how kind of him. As we were carrying a new tube, we fitted it.

From there it was the dirt road. There were some up and down, and we had the head wind. As I have been lazy travelling on the great motorcycle, it was hard to peddle uphill! Now I respect Jose (Yutaka) who has been travelling on his bicycle wighs 70-80kgs all the way down from Alaska!!

We made the first stop at a dune. Here Atacama desert, it supposed to be the driest in the world. The view was excellent from the top of the dune.

We continued our ride deeper in the valley. As we had the head wind, it was hard... But the scenery was spectecular.

We made several stops on the way and we walked around the trails. There were dunes, cliffs, valleys, etc, this place was awesome! I was glad that I came here with friends and on a bicycle, so I could walk around easily.

On the wau back, it was much easier as we had the tail wind and more down slopes. But Ohagi was dropping off. Ohagi, you need to do more excecise!!!

We came back to the town and cooked oasta together. Ohagi is leaving to Salta tomorrow, and Lucy will stay one more night, then leaving to Arica. As I am tired, I guess I will stay one more day here. Lucy and I will go to a swimming pool tomorrow.

Day 462: 2011年10月30日

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,232km to 42,234km = 2km

DSCF9936.jpgDSCF9942.jpg今日オハギが到着予定ですが、午後7時になってもまだ現れません。

Day 462: 30 OCT 2011

San Pedro de Atacama (Casa del Sol Naciente)
42,232km to 42,234km = 2km

Those young guys were making noise until early morning, so I could not have good sleep... And there was no much running water here, so I decided to change to another campground. I packed up the tent and stuffs and went to another one "La Casa del Sol Naciente". Luckily there was a space for me.

Here I met lots of people and the time passed quickly just talking to them. I made friend with Kris and Karin from France and Netherland especially. They said when I am in France, I can visit their house! Nice.

Ohagi supposed to be here this afternoon or evening, but she did not turn up. Later, I received a message from her and she will stay a night in Calama and will cme here omorrow morning. So I will stay one more day here. It's very nice to stay here.
