Day62: 2010年9月24日
Three Rivers to Hollywood
20,239km to 20,586km = 347km
朝は7時に日が出るとともに起きました。LAまではほんの300キロチョイなのでひとっ走りです。取り敢えずシゲさんにメールをしようとマックがある所を走りながら探します。
丁度11時過ぎにベイカーズフィールド(Bakersfield)という街にマックがあったので昼飯を兼ねてネット。と、思いきや、何故だかネットにつながりません。うーん、連絡が取れないと落ち合えないぞ。
それにしても暑いですな。標高も下がりましたし、南下してますから暑くなるのは当然か。
仕方がないのでLAに向かって走ります。LA手前でマック発見。しかもFree WiFiと書いてあるのでここは間違えないでしょ。
シゲさんからメールがきてます。バナナバンガロー(Banana Bangalore)という宿に泊まるとの事なので、ワシもそこにいく事に。ハリウッドにあるんですよ、その宿。高速降りて直ぐなのでわかりやすいです。
2時前に到着しました。駐車場もあるしいいですな。ネットもタダでつながるのでブログに写真をアップしたりしてシゲさんを待ちます。ラスベガスから来るんですが、なんと途中でパンクして修理してたとか！
6時頃にようやくシゲさん到着。
イヤー、シベリア、ヨーロッパ、アフリカ、アラスカを越えて来た強者ですよ。DRも相当疲れていてカッコイイなぁ。イロイロ旅の話で盛り上がりいつのまにか時間がたってました。
シゲさんのブログの読者の深野さんが、シゲさんと夕食にいくので迎えにくるとのことなので、お邪魔することに。読者さんと会うなんて素敵ですね。
深野さんはラスベガス在住で、BNW R80GSとハーレースポーツスター1200を載っています。LAにはお仕事で来ていてしばらく滞在とのこと。韓国焼肉をご馳走になっちゃいました！ありがとうございました‼イロイロ旅の話で盛り上がり楽しい時を過ごしました。
さて、明日は何をするかな。ウォークofフェイムでも行くかな。

I needed to contact Shige and make a meeting point in LA, so I was looking for Mac on the way.
I found on in Bakersfield around 11am, so I had lunch there and tried to connect to Internet. But somehow it did not work!! So I just kept going to LA.
It got hotter again as the altitude is low and I am heading South. I found a Mac just before LA, and it has Free WiFi sign!
Shige sent me an e-mail and he is gonna stay at Banana Bangalore Hollywood. We will meet there.
I got there around 2pm. It locates just off the highway and easy to find. Now I'm in Hollywood. I can see the "Hollywood" sign from the hostel! What a bonus!
I was updating my blog and waiting for Shige. He e-mailed me again and he was fixing a puncture! He will be here by late afternoon.
He arrived around 6pm. Finally we met! His DR is so cool. I can tell he and his DR have been so many places and went through fun and tough times. We just talked about our trips and hours passed.
Mr Fukano, the resident of Las Vegas and riding BMW R80GS and HD SportsStar 1200, is a reader of Shige's blog. And he is in LA for a business. As Shige is having dinner with Mr Fukano, so I joined them. We went to a Korean BBQ buffet and Mr Fukano paid for us! Thanks!!
I am not sure what to do in LA tomorrow. I may go to Walk of Fame.

Day61: 2010年9月23日
Kings Canyon / Sequoia Nat'l Park to Three Rivers
19,992km to 20,239km = 247km
昨晩は夕暮れ前7時に寝てしまいました。
朝7時に起き(12時間睡眠！)、出発。東はキングスキャニオンへ。山火事はまだ鎮火してないようで、所々煙が上がってます。でも、思ったほど酷くはないです。
ワインディングをスィースィー抜けて山を下っていきます。気持ちイイなぁ。清流も綺麗だし、順調、順調。GSがついに20,000キロを超えました！
グリズリーフォール(Grizzly Fall)で最初の休憩。まあまあの見応えです。更に東へ進みロアーリングフォール(Roaring Fall)へ。
咆哮している滝なのでさぞかし凄いのかと思いきや、そんなに大きくない滝です。ガッカリとはいきませんが、まぁ、そんなとこかな。
キングスキャニオンはヨセミテに比べると小振りです。観光客が少ないのもうなずけます。まぁ、トレッキングに行けば見方も変わるかもですが。しかし車が少ないので、邪魔される事なくワインディングを飛ばせるのには嬉しい限りですね。
西に戻りグラントビジターセンターでネット。シベリアからヨーロッパ、アフリカを抜けてきた強者シゲさんが明日24日にLA入するので落ち合えるように携帯電話番号をメールしました。
ここから南下きてシャーマン将軍の木を見に行きます。世界一の木、世界一の生き物です。楽しみだぞ！
駐車場から10分くらい歩くとシャーマン将軍の木が見えてきます。周りの木々もデカイのですが他を圧倒しております。高さ的には他にも高い木々がありますし、太さも太いのがあるそうなのですが、体積では世界一なのです。シロナガスクジラの成獣22頭分の重さがあります。
イヤー感動的だな。もう高くはなりませんが、まだまだ太くなっているそうなので、益々大きくなってくれよ！
それからクリスタルケーブ(Crystal Cave)を見に行こうとしたのですが(途中で小熊を轢きそうになりました)、Foothillのビジターセンターでしかチケット買えないと書いてあるのではないですか！ガソリンが心配なので一回北に戻って給油。Foothillを目指しますが、途中で工事中で1時間くらい足止めを喰らいました。更に峠のキツイ下り道なので車はノロノロ。追い抜こうにも幅がなくてビジターセンターに着いたのは4時半過ぎ。しかももう閉店！ツイテないぜ！
まあ、そんなに洞窟が見たい訳でも無いので、そのまま公園を出て最寄りの街スリーリバーズ(Three Rivers)のキャンプ場にキャンプ。ここはシャワーもあって10ドルと良心的。川も流れていて風景も良く、オススメですよ。
さて、明日はLA入り。シゲさんと無事に逢えるでしょうか!?

Kings Canyon / Sequoia Nat'l Park to Three Rivers
19,992km to 20,239km = 247km
I got up at 7am. I was sleeping for 12hours!
Although the bush fire was still not put down completely, it wasn't that smokey. As there were no many cars, I could ride through the twisty road freely. It was great fun! A clean stream and nice views, I could just push on and on without sticking behind a car. The odometer of GS passed 20,000km!
First stop was at Grizzly Fall. It wasn't bad. Then riding through to Roaring Fall. I was expecting a roaring, massive fall, but it was medium sized fall. It wasn't bad but I was little disappointed.
Kings Canyon in general is smaller than Yosemite. No wonder there are less visitors here. If I do trekking, I may have another opinion. But riding through the twisty road without any stress is a bonus of this park.
I came back to Grant Visitor Centre for WiFi and lunch. Shigella the DR650 rider, went across Siberia, Europe, and Africa, will be in LA tomorrow 24th, so I mailed my mobile number to make sure I can see him in LA.
Then I went to see General Sherman Tree, the world largest tree & living creature. There are taller and wider trees in the world but Sherman Tree is largest by it's volume. It weighs 22 mature male blue whales!
It was definitely magnificent! And it is still glowing. So when I come to see it next time (I don't know when), it will be bigger!
I wanted to see Crystal Cave, but I have to buy a ticket at Foothill Visitor Centre. Oh on the way, I almost ran over a small black bear! I needed to put more gas, so I head back to north and refueled.
On the way to Foothill, I stuck for 1 hour by a road work. And after go through, cars in front were to slow as the road was narrow winding downhill. So by the time I got to the visitor centre it was after 4:30pm and it was already closed. Damn!
I wasn't that keen to see the cave, so I went down to Three Rivers outside of the Nat'l Park. The campground here is great. It costs only $10 and it has showers! And it is located the river side with a good mountain view.
Tomorrow I will be in LA. I hope I can see Shige.

San Jose to Kings Canyon Nat'l Park

昨日は何だか色々うまくいかなかったけれど、今日は楽しむぞ！
8時に起きて9時に出発。サンホセの街から出るのに手間取りましたが、101号線を南下して152号線を東へ。途中サンルイス湖(San Luis Lake)で休憩してロスバノス(Los Banos)昼飯。スペイン語のサインがそこかしこにあります。英語表記よりも多いくらいです。
キングスキャニオン・セコイア国立公園(Kings Canyon / Sequoia Nat'l Park)には2時ごろ着きました。ビジターセンターで情報を入手して見所を確かめます。
なんとキングスキャニオンは山火事で煙だらけとか。世界一大きな木シャーマン将軍の木は南にあるので明日にし、今日は北側に行く事に。
先ずは容積が世界で三番目のグラント将軍の木を見に行きます。さすがにデカイ！デカイ木を見ていると生命を感じますし不思議な気分になります。
そこから東へ。コンビクトフラットにタダのキャンプ場があるのでそこにキャンプです。何もありません。ボットン便所が一個あるだけです。水もありません。熊対策の食べ物入れも無いので食べ物や石鹸、歯磨き粉などは木にくくりつけました。もちろん熊スプレーは横に置いて寝ます。
明日はキングスキャニオンへ行き滝と清流を見たあとセコイア国立公園の方に南下します。
まだ7時ですが眠いので寝てしまいます。

San Jose to Kings Canyon Nat'l Park

Today I will have a good day.
Got up at 8am and left the motel at 9am.
It took time to get out from San Jose but I managed to get on the Route 101. Turned to east the State route 152. Stopped at Lake San Luis for a nice view. Lunch at Los Banos, I can see Spanish sign everywhere, more than English.
Arrived at Kings Canyon / Sequoia Nat'l Park around 2pm.
Checked the info at Visitor Centre and went to see General Grant Tree. It's a massive tree, the world third largest tree by volume. Looking at big trees, I can feel lives and force around them.
I found a free campground called Convict Flat. There is no facility beside a vault toilet. No bear safe food storage, so I put my foods and toiletries on a tree. Of course I put the bear spray besides me.
It's 7pm but I am so sleepy. Good night!

Day59: 2010年9月21日
San Francisco to San Jose
19,164km to 19,617km = 453km
昨日は早く寝るはずが3時ごろまで話し込んでしまいました。でも、こうして語り合えるのも2〜3年後になってしまうんですね。
朝7時半に起きて出発の準備です。かなり寝不足ですが、
なんとか8時には準備できました。三馬力さんに100ドル安のお小遣いを頂きました。ありがとうごさいます！三馬力さんとジュニアはレンタカーを返さなければいけないので、レンタカーを返すところまで一緒に行きました。
ワシのバイクを停める場所を見つけるのに苦労しましたが、２人が電車に乗って空港に向かうのを見送ることができました。名残惜しかったですが、仕方がありません。またヒツジとGSとワシの旅になりました。
今日は無駄にグルグル廻った一日となりました。
２人と別れて、とりあえずゴールデンゲートブリッヂ(GGB)を渡ろうとサンフランシスコまで走ります。朝は曇っていたのですが、晴れて良い天気になりました！
GGBに行く筈が、間違えてフィッシャーマンワーフまで来てしまいました。まあ、ここもサンフランシスコの見所なので怪我の功名ですかね。軽く写真だけ撮ってGGBに向かいます。
なかなか登り口に辿り着けなくて、クルクルいろんな所を回ってしまいました。やっぱり都会は疲れるなぁ。ようやく橋への道に辿り着き橋を越えます。シドニーのハーバーブリッヂもそうですが、走っている時の眺めはそんなに良くありません。
橋を渡りきった所にVista Pointがあったのでそこから風景を眺めます。サンフランシスコにアルカトラズにGGBにベイブリッジ。これでサンフランシスコはいいかな。
サンフランシスコ名物の坂も走りましたし、もうお腹いっぱいです。出来ればアルカトラズに行きたいのですが、高そうですし考えものです。
更に一号線に入って北上。ポイントライズ(Pt. Reyes)を目指します。ここはシーズンなら鯨も見れるポイント。アメリカ合衆国で1番強風が吹く所らしいです。
確かに風は強くて木々も一方向に傾いて生えています。
景色はいいですが、オーストラリアでさんざん似たような景色を見て来たので感動はないです。オレゴンまで北上しようかな、なんて考えていたのですが、あてもなく走っているのには楽しみを感じられないので南下することにしました。
サンフランシスコに戻りもし宿が取れれば明日アルカトラズに行こう、と。しかし今なんか大きなイベントがやっているらしく何処も満室です。日も暮れて来ましたのでサンホセを目指して南下しました。
この前のモーテルの場所覚えていれば良かったのですが(安かったので)、ジュニアに付いていっただけなので覚えていません…。変な所で高速を降りてしまい、モーテルが全くありません。ここら辺にはキャンプ場は全く見当たりませんし、野宿も出来そうな場所がありません。
マックでインターネットにつなげて検索しようとしましたが、肝心な時につながりません。しかも2軒トライしてもです。ガソリンスタンドでモーテルがある道を聞いてようやく見つけました。何軒かあたったのですが高いです。50ドルはします。
結局インドのオバちゃんが経営するモーテルに50ドルで泊まることになってしまいました。この旅最高値の宿です。しかも汚い！ベッドも臭いし、ちゃんと掃除をしている気配がありません。完全に失敗です。
明日はセコイア国立公園を目指します。テントが恋しいです。

San Francisco to San Jose
19,164km to 19,617 = 453km
Last night we supposed to sleep early but were chatting till 3am.
We got up at 7:30am and left the motel at 8am. Niomi gave me $100! Thanks!
They needed to return the rental car, so I followed them to the rental car drop at the airport.
It was sad to see them off. But my trip with Mr. Sheep and GS goes on!
I went to San Francisco to cross GGB. But somehow I ended up at Fisherman's Wharf. Here is also one of the main tourist attractions of SF, so I was in a way lucky to come here.
It was hard to find the entrance to GGB. I went around and around, and finally got on the bridge. There is Vista Point at the north end of the bridge and I enjoyed the view. There I could see City of SF, Alcatraz, GGB and Bay Bridge all together.
I kept going North and took the route 1, the coastal way. The first stop was Pt. Reyes. Here, you can see Whales in Spring. Also it us known to have strongest wind in the US. The wind blows at average of 60mph and recorded 100mph wind!
The view was good but I have seen similar views in Australia so many times, so it wasn't any special for me.
I was planning to go up to Oregon but I got tired of riding without any definite direction. So I decided to go down South again.
I went back to SF and see if I can find any hostel to stay. If I can find I was thinking to visit Alcatraz tomorrow. But hostels were all full as a special event is on(I don't know what is on).
I could not find any campground and there is no place to bush camp. I should have remembered the location of the motel in San Jose. The motel was cheap and clean. But I was just following Jr., so I don't remember!
I ended up staying a crappy motel in San Jose. It costs $50 a night and not clean at all. The bed smells too. I really made a bad choice today...
Anyway, tomorrow I will be in Giant Sequoia / Kings Canyon Nat'l Park. I miss my tent.

昨日は早く寝るはずが3時ごろまで話し込んでしまいました。でも、こうして語り合えるのも2〜3年後になってしまうんですね。
朝7時半に起きて出発の準備です。かなり寝不足ですが、
なんとか8時には準備できました。三馬力さんに100ドル安のお小遣いを頂きました。ありがとうごさいます！三馬力さんとジュニアはレンタカーを返さなければいけないので、レンタカーを返すところまで一緒に行きました。
ワシのバイクを停める場所を見つけるのに苦労しましたが、２人が電車に乗って空港に向かうのを見送ることができました。名残惜しかったですが、仕方がありません。またヒツジとGSとワシの旅になりました。
今日は無駄にグルグル廻った一日となりました。
２人と別れて、とりあえずゴールデンゲートブリッヂ(GGB)を渡ろうとサンフランシスコまで走ります。朝は曇っていたのですが、晴れて良い天気になりました！
GGBに行く筈が、間違えてフィッシャーマンワーフまで来てしまいました。まあ、ここもサンフランシスコの見所なので怪我の功名ですかね。軽く写真だけ撮ってGGBに向かいます。
サンフランシスコ名物の坂も走りましたし、もうお腹いっぱいです。出来ればアルカトラズに行きたいのですが、高そうですし考えものです。
確かに風は強くて木々も一方向に傾いて生えています。
景色はいいですが、オーストラリアでさんざん似たような景色を見て来たので感動はないです。オレゴンまで北上しようかな、なんて考えていたのですが、あてもなく走っているのには楽しみを感じられないので南下することにしました。

今日も朝遅く起きました。こんなグウタラ生活も今日で終わりです。
モーテルをチェックアウトし、モールへ。三馬力さんとワシは特に買うものないのですが、ジュニアは張りきって買い物に行きました。
フードコートにマックがありWiFiが使えたのでインターネットして時間を潰します。iPod Touchの電池が切れたので、ちょっとウロウロ。バイクのグローブが最近臭いのでティーツリーオイルをボディーショップで買ってグローブに湿布。これで臭いの元がとれるかな!?
2時になったのでサンフランシスコに向かいました。三馬力さんとジュニアは明日の朝の便で帰国なので空港に近いモーテルに行ったのですが、デカイイベントがあるらしくどこもいっぱい。ベルモント(Belmont)まで戻ってようやくモーテルがとれました。ルーム番号204。実はリノでも204で昨日もトイレが詰まるまでは204だったのです。偶然ですがなんか面白いですね。
荷物を置いたら街へ。どうもサンフランシスコは物価が高いですね。ゴールデンゲートブリッヂ(金門橋)を越えようということになり、ドライブ。間違えて高速に入ってしまい違う橋を越えてしまいました。トレジャーアイランドで降りてみたらアルカトラズ島とサンフランシスコの街が夕陽に映えて綺麗でした。
インド料理屋で夕飯を食べて、大満足。金門橋をサンフランシスコ方面に越えたら6ドル取られました。高い！
高速でモーテルまで戻って、今日は早く寝ます。

San Jose to San Francisco

This morning we got up late again. I will go back to my touring life style from tomorrow. I have gained some weight in these 5-6 days.
We went to Great Mall for shopping. Niomi and I don't have a thing to buy but Jr. was very keen to shop. I found WiFi connection in the food court, so U was waiting for Jr. and Niomi there. But my iPod ran out if battery. I did window shopping for a while. I found a bottle of tea tree oil in Body Shop. My gloves smell bad recently, so I bought the bottle and applied some on my gloves. It seems working really good.
Then we went to San Francisco. As Niomi and Jr. will take a morning flight home, we wanted to stay near the airport. But all motels are full due to a special event. So we went back South and found one in Belmont. The room number is 204. Actually since Reno, we have been staying in the room number 204! What a coincidence!
We went to city of San Francisco and Jr. continued his shopping there. I found the prices are higher in SF.
We decided to go across Golden Gate Bridge. We took a wrong turn and went on another bridge. We got off on Treasure Island and we could see a good view of Alcatraz Island and San Francisco.
We had dinner at an Indian restaurant. The meal was great!
We went across GGB to San Francisco and went back to the motel. We will sleep early tonight.
